Capital University Law School's Mock Trial program provides students practical training, which is difficult to receive as a student outside of an academic setting. The Mock Trial program offers students the opportunity to compete on an inter-school basis, utilizing neutral fact patterns in a variety of practice areas to test the students' advocacy skills. The Mock Trial program concludes with a trial competition, where students participate in every aspect of a civil jury trial before judges and litigators. Capital University Law School & Grant Medical Center partnered to provide training on medical malpractice to law students and medical residents. The course utilized a unique, interdisciplinary approach to skills training & professional development. The course attempts to meet several needs: (1) Increase experiential learning opportunities to develop professional skills and judgment; (2) Provide authentic, experiential learning that is cost-effective and accessible to all law students, including non-traditional and parttime students; and (3) Promote interdisciplinary education.

Investigations in Transportation was an elementary school partnership and curriculum development project, engaging STEM professionals in school-based design projects.
Fifth-grade students in two Oregon communities teamed up with transportation professionals from ODOT to redesign their school parking lots, resulting in better traffic flow and increased capacity. The immersive learning experience received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, teachers and administrators.
This webinar will demonstrate how the Portland Metro STEM Partnership was facilitated to bring transportation education into elementary school classrooms, offering students unparalleled access to STEM professionals working in their communities and to real-world applications of engineering principles.

Pdx Journeys: Studying And Living In The Us, Low-Intermediate Novel And Textbook For University Esl Students, Amber Bliss Calderón

Each unit begins with a chapter of fiction about a teacher and students in one ESL class. Reading comprehension and reading skills exercises follow. Prefix and suffix vocabulary-focus exercises are included. Academic Word List vocabulary exercises help students build a strong foundation in both receptive and productive knowledge. The following chapters in each unit expand on unit themes through non-fiction articles focusing on academic preparation, international experiences, and cultural adjustment. Vocabulary is repeated and comprehension and reading skills are further practiced.

As we move though our unit on the Gilded Age, we will spend time taking about the era’s Captains of Industry and Robber Barons. In this age, capitalism in the United States begins to reflect our current market economy. In this lesson we will see Captains of Industry and Robber Barons test the boundaries of that system. The emergence of men like Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Morgan and how they bring about government subsidies, labor reform, money in politics, political corruption, and larger government over-site in commerce, industry, and labor.
