The Perceived Benefits Of Automotive Service Excellence (Ase) Certifications For Graduates Of Four-Year Automotive Technology Programs, John Thompson
The Perceived Benefits Of Automotive Service Excellence (Ase) Certifications For Graduates Of Four-Year Automotive Technology Programs, John Thompson
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The roots of certification in America date back to guild-like associations similar to those in Europe, but did not gain industry recognition until after World War II. It is recognized as a way for an industry to elevate itself and be recognized as a stand-alone, autonomous profession, as long as there is validity in the process and impartial oversight by an accredited governing body. It is also a way for individuals to distinguish themselves from their peers by proving a technical aptitude or competence. It allows a prospective job candidate to signal to a potential employer that they have attained …

An Inquiry Into The Aviation Management Education Paradigm Shift, Matthew P. Earnhardt, Jason M. Newcomer, Daryl V. Watkins, James W. Marion
International Journal of Aviation, Aeronautics, and Aerospace
Working adults with four-year degrees from accredited colleges or universities earn, on average, almost three times more than individuals without a degree. This pay gap led Newcomer and his colleagues to study attitudes of aviation and aerospace managers towards education. That study found that managers valued education in new hires, even though they did not deem it critical to their own positions. That finding indicated a potential paradigm shift towards the perceived value of education in the industry.
In the current qualitative, phenomenological research, we interviewed 14 managers from various capacities within the aviation and aerospace industries to determine the …

The Identification Of Variables And Factors Related To Preservice Teacher Candidates’ Passing A State Teacher Certification Examination At An Hbcu, Melanie Frizzell, Noran L. Moffett
Georgia Educational Research Association Conference
This study sought to examine the outcome of teacher education candidates’ performance on a state content exam. Seventeen participants from the class of 2012 were identified for the study of which 12 participants fully participated in the study. This study utilized data collected from the participants through the Teacher Quality Enhancement Subcontract Grant Summer/Fall/Spring 2011-2012 Workshop Series held at the private HBCU. The research design used a QUAN- QUAL-QUAN to triangulate the data through three methods of data collection: GACE early childhood education (ECE) data, GACE ECE survey questionnaire and class of 2012 member interviews. The findings from the survey …
Professional Certification For Accomplished Principals: Directions For Australia, Lawrence Ingvarson
Professional Certification For Accomplished Principals: Directions For Australia, Lawrence Ingvarson
Dr Lawrence Ingvarson (Consultant)
This review was commissioned by Principals Australia Institute. Its purpose is twofold: to review approaches to assessing and evaluating principals internationally; and, to draw on this review in developing recommendations for building a rigorous and beneficial professional certification system for accomplished principals in Australia. There is widespread agreement that our society needs to place greater value on the important and complex work of teachers and principals (Productivity Commission 2012). Whether that happens will depend in large part on our capacity to develop standards for successful practice and rigorous methods for assessing those who meet them. Our ability to recognise and …
Predictors Of Success On The Prosthetics Certification Examination, Rebecca M. Miro
Predictors Of Success On The Prosthetics Certification Examination, Rebecca M. Miro
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Students who graduate from a practitioner program in prosthetics & orthotics must achieve certification in order to obtain licensure and practice independently in 16 states. In states where licensure is not mandatory, graduates may choose to pursue certification in order assure patients that they are practicing at the highest level as well as to differentiate themselves from competitors. While studies have been carried out extensively regarding predictors of success on the certification exams in other professions, no such study has been carried out to date in prosthetics.
The American Board for Certification in Prosthetics, Orthotics, & Pedorthics (ABC), established in …
Preparing Principals For Instructional Leadership: Integrating The Common Core Standards--Research, Gary Houchens, Jill Cabrera
Preparing Principals For Instructional Leadership: Integrating The Common Core Standards--Research, Gary Houchens, Jill Cabrera
Kentucky Journal of Excellence in College Teaching and Learning
Western Kentucky University has structured its own P-12 school principal certification program with a heavy emphasis on instructional leadership, starting with a strong understanding of the Common Core Standards and their role in providing a firm foundation for effective instruction. Educational research from the past 40 years reveals that effective school principals are “learning leaders” (Hallinger, 2011). Principals in high-performing schools devote much of their focus to the process of teaching and learning and dedicate their efforts to the improvement of both. Principal training programs must then make fostering instructional leadership a top priority (Jackson & Kelly, 2002). The purpose …

A National System Of Reciprocity In The Fire Service, Bill Hicks
Online Theses and Dissertations
This paper reviews literature from on line, research papers, dissertations, conference proceedings, and monthly periodical sources discussing firefighter certifications to identify the current status of reciprocity in the U.S. Fire Service, as well as the components that make up the necessary steps to achieve a national system of reciprocity for fire service professionals. Accreditation (NFPA, 2011), programs, and agencies (IFSAC, 2012), (ProBoard, 2012) already exists to insure the levels of training set by nationally accepted standards (NFPA, 2013) are being meet by training providers, and are possessed by fire service professional. Standards-Based Professional Learning And Certification: By The Profession, For The Profession, Lawrence C. Ingvarson
Standards-Based Professional Learning And Certification: By The Profession, For The Profession, Lawrence C. Ingvarson
Dr Lawrence Ingvarson (Consultant)
This chapter presents a model for a standards-based professional learning and certification system, a system controlled and provided by the teaching profession itself. It is a model of a highly educated profession, capable of defining research-based standards for effective teaching, promoting the development of its members toward those standards, and providing a rigorous and respected process for recognizing and certifying those who reach them. It is a model that calls for the teaching profession to be entrusted with the responsibilities of a profession; one of these is the responsibility and resources to establish its own standards-based professional learning and certification …
