Marcus was able to formulate a game plan. He originally was recruited to play basketball at UC Davis until the roster became full. It was then suggested he enroll at Dominican where he continued his athletic career (leading the Penguins to a stunning upset of UC Davis in 2002) and changed his academic plans. He was encouraged by faculty to join a biology class in the School of Health and Natural Sciences that took him down a pre-med road where he met another premed student, Amanda Shepherd.

In the summer of 2014, Bernstein ‘15 gained more than valuable work experience during a threemonth internship at LinkedIn. He earned a full-time job offer after successfully competing against students from throughout the United States for a coveted position in the company’s Business Leadership Program (BLP). Bernstein’s job began in July of 2015, shortly after he graduated from Dominican with a degree in Business Administration.

Over 10 years, more than 3,000 Dominican students have learned through 35 faculty members and more than 68,000 hours of service to community partners. They have participated in classes such as Beauty in the Struggle with Lynn Sondag, Caroline Hanssen’s Expository Writing, and Emily Wu’s Korean Drumming and Dance class with seniors at Whistlestop in San Rafael. Inspired by a group of San Quentin State Prison inmates, the Service-Learning program in the past year has joined the Bay Area Homeless Hygiene Drive.

Students with special needs often miss out on classroom curricula for specialized instruction. While these services are valued for educational benefits, this instruction method often has negative impacts on social-emotional development and targets students for their differing needs.

Integrated collaborative teaching models include collaborative teaching among general and special educators in an inclusive environment. In this descriptive study, the author examined integrated collaborative teaching as a delivery model to increase responsiveness to the needs of all learners through academic and social inclusion.

Many educators consider using educational iPad apps to supplement literacy curriculum and facilitate greater student engagement. Student literacy achievement is crucial at the lower elementary level. Students who do not progress through the grade level literacy standards of the Common Core State Standards need intervention instruction to achieve mastery. The skills taught and the courses offered to the United States’ public high school students have changed drastically over the past 20 years. Career-based electives have given way to college preparatory classes. Gone are the auto shops, construction and home economics classes—courses that many view as outdated, dangerous or unnecessary at the high school level. Arts and humanities-based courses have also disappeared; even courses that can train students to enter the robust fields of healthcare or technology are diminishing (Dare, 2006).
