Through a review of current events, contemporary ideas on multicultural education, and the art of Kehinde Wiley, this article argues that using the work of contemporary artists is one way to introduce pre-service teachers to the complex issues of multiculturalism, race, and culture in contemporary society. By learning about contemporary artists whose work overtly relates to race and culture, pre-service teachers may become more comfortable with the realities of the multicultural schools they encounter throughout their careers. Additionally, the article introduces portraiture methodology as a means of understanding interactions in university classrooms, especially as they relate to pre-service teacher education. …

This article addresses the urgent need for school counselors to acquire additional cultural competence skills for working with culturally diverse school students. Behavior and disciplinary problems are increasing in many school districts across the United States. Both urban and rural districts are having similar problems with individual students displaying disruptive behavior in schools. This article discusses the factors that causes behavior problem among culturally diverse students and offers recommendations for addressing these problems.

China is a rapidly developing multiethnic country facing several difficult challenges such as pollution and growing income inequality, which in turn threaten social stability. In addition, China must address ethnic conflict, particularly in urban, autonomous, and border regions. The government is advocating national unity education content in the school and college curriculum to help abate the problem. Multicultural education is a potentially effective process that could provide a framework for addressing social, economic, political, and educational inequalities in China.
