Eames Scholarship Fund Set Up At Waycross College

The article presents information on the Eames Scholarship Fund created for students of Waycross College in Ware County, Georgia. The scholarship fund was established by Charles B. Eames Jr, former director of the Okefenokee Regional Library System (ORLS), to honor the memory of his parents and to benefit students majoring in library science, information studies or related fields. Students experiencing financial difficulties are also eligible to benefit from the scholarship. James Willis, president of the Waycross College Foundation, is looking forward to seeing many students of its institution benefit from the scholarship.

Since 1951 Eastern has offered advanced study

with master’s programming. Since that first

offering thousands of students have earned

graduate degrees, and EIU graduate alumni

have changed the world we live in. In 2005

EIU celebrated more than 50 years of graduate

education by honoring 50 graduate alumni

as Outstanding Graduate Alumni. That same

year the Graduate Alumni Advisory Board was

created and met for the first time. Since those

initial 50 honorees, the Graduate Alumni

Advisory Board, the Graduate School, and EIU’s

graduate programs have continued to honor

the achievements and accomplishments of our

graduate alumni every year.

The Scholarship Of Teaching: Contributing Factors To Improved Teaching Performance Among University Faculty Members, Whitney Ransom

This thesis brings a much-needed focus on the quality and scholarship of teaching as it pertains to educational and faculty development. The main purpose of this paper is to outline what more than 200 faculty members across a wide variety of disciplines have focused on over a three-year period to make significant (a 1.5 standard deviation increase or higher in online student ratings) and sustained improvements in their teaching. The top three factors of improvement include active/practical learning, teacher/student interactions, and clear expectations/learning outcomes. Research and publication is an inherent value at all institutions of higher education throughout the world. Regardless of the motivation, faculty research fulfills a vital need for new knowledge generation. The purpose of the current study was to pilot test a survey instrument to evaluate factors that have an affect on faculty research at one public comprehensive four-year institution. The Business School in cooperation with the Office of Institutional Research created an instrument to track changes in faculty motivation and research involvement over time, with an emphasis on submissions and publications as effective outcomes.
