The Relationship Among Leadership Preparation Practices And Leader, School, And Student Outcomes In K-8 Schools, Donna Braun, Robert Gable, Stacey Kite

This study examined the relationships among leader preparation practices and leader, school, and student outcomes through hierarchical regression analysis of questionnaire (N = 88) and state data. The findings suggest that, after controlling for demographics, a significant (p < .05) positive relationship was found between preparation practices and leader behavior (Δ R2 = .05); preparation practices and student achievement (Δ R2 = .05); preparation practices and leaders’ instructional knowledge (Δ R2 = .06); and leaders’ instructional knowledge and instruction practices in schools (Δ R2 = .05). These findings suggest the further inclusion of the essential practices into preparation programs.

The importance of engaging the rehabilitation profession in the collection and utilization of its oral history is illustrated through an example. A transcript from an interview with William Emener provides a first person narrative of events leading up to the first national rehabilitation counselor training conference in Crystal City, Virginia. Themes of community emerge in the telling and are used to compare and contrast to current situations in the field. The purpose of this research study was to explore the concept of leadership self-identity in a particular population of formal leaders—women college presidents. Using narrative inquiry, the research examined the following: how these women describe and define themselves as leaders, what personal attributes they believe allow them to be leaders, their past and future career intentions, how their relationships with others influence their leadership self-identity, and the stories they tell about themselves and leadership.
