Au niveau universitaire, la plupart des programmes de francais offrent un cours que l'on peut classer sous l'appellation generique de "cours de conversation" ("Conversational Skills", "French for Oral Communication, etc.). Si le but de ce cours est clair: ameliorer les competences communicatives orales des apprenants, son contenu est par contre tres ouvert. Dans ce type de cours, la "conversation" prend souvent appui sur l'exploitation de documents authentiques et permet ainsi aux apprenants d'approfondir leurs connaissances culturelles. Our understanding of human learning has been greatly improved by recent research findings from the fields of cognitive science, neurobiology, organizational studies, anthropology, linguistics, and evolutionary psychology. Despite all that is known, however, the majority of formal schools in the world operate much as they did 50 years ago. The pedagogy and the structure of the educational experience still reflect industrial age assumptions that are increasingly anachronistic in the modern knowledge production economy and in the post-modern cultural arena. The Essential Academic Learning Requirements developed by the various subject committees selected by the Washington State Commission on Student Learning and the recommendations made by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics are addressed. The benefits of integrating children's literature and mathematics are studied. Integrated activities and an annotated bibliography of children's literature that could supplement a traditional mathematics curriculum for primary age students are developed.

The purpose of this project was to design and develop a model interdisciplinary unit combining English and history at the junior year. To accomplish this purpose, current research and literature on integration was reviewed. Additionally, learning objectives, teaching strategies, educational activities and instructional materials were developed and adapted. The curriculum focuses on World War II. It should serve as a possible example of how integration might work to effectively facilitate an understanding of history through literature and literature through history.
