The purpose of this paper is to present a review of the literature related to the proposition that oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder are, in essence, the same disorder, with varying degrees of severity. This disorder is estimated to afflict between 3% and 9% of the entire United States school-aged population. This disorder is characterized by deficits in social interaction skills and communication skills (such as the absence of eye contact or facial expressions).
