The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions that school principals, directors of special education/directors of pupil personnel/psychologists, regular educators, and special educators in Virginia public schools have of the process of integrating educable mentally retarded, learning disabled, and emotionally disturbed students into regular classes in grades 5-9. This study investigated the relationship between the attitudes of principals and teachers toward mainstreaming and the level of comfort participants felt toward special education and mainstreaming. Sixty-five large and small middle schools from the state of Virginia were randomly selected to participate in this study. Participants completed demographic/information sheets, the Attitude Towards Mainstreaming Scale (ATMS), and the Comfortability Scale for Special Education (CSSE). An Investigation Of Eligibility Decision Congruence Among School Administrators, Psychologists, And Social Workers For Virginia's Developmentally Delayed Population, John William Faircloth

The study investigated the construct of eligibility decision congruence as it applied to professional decision-makers for children with suspected developmental delays. Professional status and judgement format were the key variables of interest. Three distinct professional groups were surveyed: school administrators, psychologists, and social workers. The control group used professional judgement to determine eligibility, whereas the experimental group used a structured worksheet and eligibility criteria. One hundred and twenty subjects participated in a simulation of the eligibility decision process. Each subject was given five case summaries. This research was designed to determine any differences that have occurred in the last fifteen years regarding the demographics, roles, responsibilities, and job satisfaction of support services middle management in higher education.;A sample of mid-level administrators in the state of Virginia responded to a demographics questionnaire and to the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) and Job in General Scale (JIG), two tests of job satisfaction.;The results showed that there has been no appreciable differences in the types of positions or the inherent responsibilities in the last 15 years. The purposes of this qualitative study were to investigate the transformation of Madison College, a small Virginia women's state teachers college, into James Madison University, a nationally recognized coeducational, comprehensive university, and to examine the effect of President Ronald E. Carrier's charismatic leadership on the transformation. This metamorphosis took place in just twelve years.;The Strategic Planning Model developed by Kotler and Fox in Strategic Marketing for Educational Institutions (1985) was used as a framework to evaluate the strategic plans used by Madison's administrators to change the institution's image. Articulation was the topic of some educational leaders within Virginia over twenty years ago. More recently, however, the Commonwealth developed statewide articulation.;The procedure used in this research to present the findings of this study involved an examination of various documents. Some of these documents were produced by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, the State Board of Education, Minutes of State Council meetings, as well as Minutes of Board of Education meetings. The purpose of this study is to identify social and intellectual sources of influence shaping 14 gifted high school seniors in one rural culture, to delineate patterns among those sources of influence, and to generate questions for further investigation of giftedness--primarily in a rural culture.;All 14 seniors attending the single public high school in a rural county in eastern Virginia who had been identified according to state guidelines as gifted by school division personnel were selected as subjects for this case study research.
