Kindergarten Teachers' Conceptions Of Reading, Kelly Duane Tolman

This study attempted to identify the reading conceptions of a sample of kindergarten teachers in the state of Utah in terms of five basic approaches to beginning reading. The subjects responded to a survey instrument that included 45 statements about various beginning reading methodologies.

The descriptive data generated from the study indicates that no significant differences exist among the teachers' preferences for any of the five conceptions of reading. The data also indicates that no significant differences exist between teacher preferences for "content-centered" conceptions of reading and "pupil-centered" conceptions of reading.

Is There A Significant Relationship Between Teacher Credibility And Teacher Effectiveness?, Blake D. Madsen

This thesis was designed to determine if a significant relationship exists between credibility and effectiveness in seminary teachers.
Teacher credibility was determined by an adaptation of McCroskey's semantic differential scales used for measuring teacher credibility. Teacher effectiveness was determined by a matching scripture test.
Chi square tests produced significant relationships between teacher credibility and the following: student religiosity, teacher influence and class attitude. The tests also produced significant relationships between teacher effectiveness and these variables: sex, student religiosity, teacher influence and class attitude. The Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) of Mount Lawley College has been responsible for the development of two correspondence courses for'adult Aborigines since 1978. Over the past four years the initial concept of a one year external study course bridging through to tertiary study courses for Aboriginal "aides" has broadened considerably, and encompasses two programs each of 4 units of study available to all post school Aboriginals.

In the first year of the course operation ATEP commissioned an initial feasibility research study and since that time no further studies of the program has been undertaken. The courses have changed dramatically …
