The purpose of this study was to investigate the compliance and implementation levelsof special education services in California during the 1979-80 academic year. Data sources used for this study included (a) an analysis of 20 Northern California Monitor and Review (MAR) reports, (b) the descriptive state data contained in the 1979-80 California Master Plan Report, and (c) the evaluation data from the United States Office of Special Education Program Administrative Review (PAR) of California for 1979-80. PURPOSE: Licensed family day care providers in two northern California counties were surveyed to ascertain their views about current licensing regulations and four alternatives. The resulting data can be used by the legislature, the licensing agencies, and other groups involved in planning for improvement and expansion of child care services. PROCEDURES: Opinion statements were written which contained key elements of the present licensing system and four alternatives. Part I of a questionnaire was c·omposed of these statements. The purpose of this action research project was to develop and implement in a sixth grade class, a unit focusing on animals. It was the present researcher’s belief that by exposing children to the problems concerning animals this exposure would in turn develop more sympathetic attitudes toward animals. With this change of attitude and awareness, as well as the thoughtful production of possible solutions, there is hope for the animal, his kingdom, and our own survival and preservation.

A multiple baseline across behaviors design was used to test the effectiveness of a treatment package involving the use of a videotape recorder to improve the performance of college women volleyball players. The subjects were four highly skilled athletes, as evidenced by thei.r participation in the University of the Pacific volleyball program, ranked second nationally during the 1980-81 season. This study investigated the relationship between various forms of intervention and gender on the moral development of junior high school students. The three types of intervention identified and studied were: (a) a classroom values education program, (b) crisis counseling, and (c) a combination classroom-counseling intervention. The cognitive-developmental approach of Lawrence Kohlberg served as the theoretical base for this study. In order to determine the effects of the two variables on the moral reasoning of children, 195 junior high school students were divided into three treatment groups and one control group. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to test, modify and refine the theory developed by Gross and his associates on implementing organizational innovations by applying it to the attempt to implement a bilingual education project.

Procedures. Criteria were established for the selection of the school site. Once the site was selected, the data were collected through classroom observations, staff interviews, questionnaires, and available school documents. The data were analyzed with regard to their fit or lack of fit with elements of Gross' theory. Factors not accounted for in the theory were identified.

Toxoplasmosis is a disease produced by infection with the protozoan Toxoplasma gondii, an intracellular parasite which was first isolated from the North African rodent, Cyterodactylus gondii, in 1908. Since that time, this organism has been shown to have worldwide distribution and is probably the most common parasite of mammals, birds and reptiles (Remington., 1960). In 1965, Hutchinson described toxoplasma oocysts in cat feces, but it was not until 1970 that the life cycle of the organism was disclosed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the competencies of third grade students on linguistic awareness and conservation tasks, and to determine if these skills were related to reading achievement. Two measures of linguistic awareness were used in this study, the Concepts About Print (Sand) Test and the "Technical Language of Literacy" ("TLL") subtest of the Linguistic Awareness in Reading Readiness Test. The Concept Assessment Kit--Conservation (CAK-C) was used to determine conservation skills. The possible relationship between conservation and linguistic awareness was also explored.

Problem. When considering specific instructional areas associated with the performance of teachers, do teachers and administrators in the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) school system differ in their perceptions regarding the appropriateness of inservice education programs? Procedure. Three sample groups were derived from the population of SDA educators in California. These groups included: administrators at the district level; administrators in elementary and secondary schools; and elementary and secondary teachers. Of the 298 questionnaires distributed, 86.9 percent were returned.
