The purpose of this project was to develop a resource manual to facilitate effective instructional strategies for at-risk junior high school students. To accomplish this purpose, current research and literature related to at-risk student characteristics, their special needs, and programs and strategies developed to assist them was reviewed. Additionally, on site visits to selected programs and interviews with teachers and administrators were conducted.
At-risk students are young people who lack motivation to do well in school or work. They live marginally outside the socially accepted code for children and youth. School systems which have large numbers of at-risk students need …

A project that deveIops an in-service training packet that demonstrates and explains the use of visuals in second language learning, beginning through advanced levels. Packet includes applications for visual usage in the development of writing, reading, speaking and listening skiIls in second language learners. Second language teachers, language art teachers and English as a Second Language instructors could benefit from such a packet.

The specific purposes of this project were to:
1. Analyze the instructional comprehension questions suggested by the Houghton Mifflin teachers' manual for the basal reading series grades 1, 2, and 3. This included oral questions used to guide silent reading and post-story discussion questions.
2. Develop additional instructional resources to correlate with the Houghton Mifflin basal reading series grades 1, 2, and 3. Specifically created were alternative questioning strategies to aid early readers in the development of a process for comprehending written passages as they are reading.
These resources will be submitted for use in the author's local school district.

It is the purpose of this study (1) to investigate industrial arts programs in the Greater Seattle area to discover existing conditions and course content, (2) to research selected national curriculum projects for specific course content which each holds important, and 3) to present conditions which can improve industrial arts and assemble course content for selected subjects in industrial arts. This study is concerned with work toward solution of two of the seven problems cited by Schmitt: "l. Keeping up with advances in technology" and "7. Acquiring and teaching modern concepts of industry."

Much has been done since World War II to propagate and develop instructional aids for general education. Many of these have been specifically designed to fit the industrial arts areas. However, some industrial arts instructors seem unaware of the possibilities inherent in instructional aids. This paper, then, is an attempt to (1) describe and evaluate several specific teaching aids and (2) use these examples to show some possible roles of teaching aids in industrial arts.
