This quantitative study explored the post-secondary success of the graduating classes of 2010 and 2011 from one early college high school in Washtenaw County, Michigan. The Early College Alliance (ECA) program is located on the campus of Eastern Michigan University (EMU), a public four-year university. It is a consortium program providing a unique and supported dual enrollment opportunity to high school students. There are several types of organizations that propose to educate students living within a large urban city in southeastern Michigan. These organizations manage portfolios of schools and differ in a variety of ways. Some of them are for-profit corporations, and others are nonprofit. This qualitative dissertation study explored the construct of academic optimism and its manifestation in the schooling lives of low-income, African American females who have obtained post-secondary educational status. The study also examined the facilitators and barriers the participants have encountered on their academic journeys towards the attainment of a fouryear college degree. In Saudi Arabia, the lack of representation of women in senior educational leadership is a problem that continues to plague the quality of K–12 educations in girls’ schools in the nation. In this paper, I will address the likely causes and outcomes of this issue and will suggest strategies for change that focus on the implementation of distributed and transformational theories of leadership to encourage renovation in Saudi girls’ school curricula.
