This study examines Channel One's influence on middle schools in Sullivan County, Tennessee. The purpose of the study is to investigate the views, feelings, and opinions of Sullivan County middle school teachers regarding the use of Channel One in their classrooms. The study utilizes data gathered from surveys and personal interviews from five middle schools in Sullivan County, Tennessee that subscribe to Channel One. A Survey Of Factors Affecting Computer Implementation In Rural Northeast Tennessee K-12 Public Schools, Carl S. Rapp

The purpose of this study was to examine the variables that are apparently affecting the incorporation of computer technology in Northeast Tennessee rural K-12 public schools. Therefore, the present study investigated the relationship between the independent variables--gender, age, and prior experience, and the dependent variables--knowledge about, attitude toward, and use of computer technology among Northeast Tennessee teachers and principals. This study utilized a survey methodology seeking responses from teachers and administrators in Sullivan, Hawkins, Johnson, Washington, Carter, and Unicoi counties. The findings were based on the return of 208 completed surveys which represented a 52% return rate. Based on the …

The purposes of this study were to determine the factors that influence the use of e-mail by principals, the purposes for which e-mail messages were sent and received, and the impact of experience and training in the areas of computers and e-mail. A survey was sent to a stratified random sample of 620 elementary, middle/junior high, and high school principals of the Central Appalachian Region. Respondents were asked to provide data regarding demographics, accessibility to hardware and software, computer and e-mail experience and training, uses of e-mail, and items that influence e-mail use. The cover of the November-December 1995 issue of Military Review is emblazoned with the quotation, “We don’t win unless CNN says we win.” This testament to the power of the news media in military operations was given by General John Shalikashvili, then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and was carried on the cover of this professional journal of the United States Army. The implied message in his statement is that professional military officers need to comprehend the power the news media have in a democratic society and their importance for the success of modem military operations.

The purpose of this project was to develop a computer-based instructional material for Temecula third grade teachers to use with their history/social science curriculum. What evolved was a stack about Old Town Temecula that supports the Framework, an integration of technology into the history/social science curriculum. The project connects the past and present by focusing on the historical buildings in Old Town Temecula. As an instructional tool the stack provides teachers with the pre field trip materials and follow-up activities to use when doing a field trip to Old Town Temecula.

This project was created to provide teachers with a model multimedia project that demonstrates the use of multimedia as both a presentation tool and an archival instrument. It provides teachers with a simple guide to help them teach students how to use multimedia as a productivity tool in the classroom. This outline gives a step by step format that guides teachers and students through the development and presentation process. In addition, an evaluation rubric is provided that offers teachers a concise means to monitor student learning.

Audiographic conferencing is a distance education practice being used in schools. Audiographic conferencing utilizes hardware and software to provide interactive audio and data transmission between locations. This study was conducted to assess the perceived effectiveness of the components of audiographic distance education by teachers and students in three Central Illinois High Schools involved in utilizing audiographics as a delivery system in terms of hardware, software, teaching techniques, appropriateness of course content, delivery system, and student achievement.

This study compared and contrasted current goals and practices of institutional advising programs with those utilized specifically by distance education programs. as part of the conceptual framework, the study analyzed seven practices of advising programs identified through previous research on academic advising: delivery systems, organizational models, evaluation, support or reference materials, required occasions for academic advising, group advising, and advisor-student communication. The eight advising goals of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) were also used to build the conceptual framework.;Data were collected through a survey which resulted in descriptive statistics on advising goals and practices in distance education.
