The Determinants Of Curricular Offerings In Selected Public Adult High Schools In California., Vernon Stanley Jaquith

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

One of the tasks of the adult school administrator is that of planning the program to be offered to the public. Is it well balanced academic and vocational areas; does it satisfy the needs of the home-maker, the student, the apprentice; does it offer something for each to fulfill his educational needs? These and a number of other questions must be answered before an adult school program will satisfy the educational needs of the adult community it is to serve. Damon stated it well when he wrote that: Although adult education is assuming a more important place in the public …

Personalized Reading Program For Intermediate Grades, Pamela Kay Kelly Jan 1973

Personalized Reading Program For Intermediate Grades, Pamela Kay Kelly

All Graduate Projects

As the reading specialist in an elementary school, it was my responsibility to assist the classroom teachers with their reading program; specifically, with those students who were having difficulty. It was not feasible for me to meet with all who needed help; at the most, I could help forty-three students per week. The pace at which I had to function to assess and meet their individual needs became too great. In view of this situation, the following program was designed to stimulate every intermediate student's desire to read and to do so at his own pace.

Null hypotheses related to effectiveness stated that the ILU treatment would …

A Model To Elicit Optimum Internal Communications In Unified School Districts, Harry C. Weinberg

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Often it is the case unified school districts do not have optimum internal communications. "'Today school personnel, including administrator, often 'confound' their own language by failing to communicate adequately and effectively or by communicating unintentionally in a manner that is detrimental to them and the schools with which they are associated."

Each district has its own unique instruments and channels by which internal communications take place. Knezevich states~, "Communications is one of the least understood areas in administration." This study provides information about successful communication techniques and presents a viable model that should have positive practical implications for unified school …

The Effect Of Feedback Of Quiz Results On Achievement In Introductory College Economics., William Guilbert Darling Jan 1973

The Effect Of Feedback Of Quiz Results On Achievement In Introductory College Economics., William Guilbert Darling

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Problem: Kelley's "Teaching Information Processing System (TIPS)” provides informative feedback (IF) from non-credit quizzes to students, teaching assistants, and instructor. Differentiated assignments are made according to quiz results. TIPS classes achieve reliably higher midterm scores than control classes in introductory economics; no final examination comparisons have been reported. TIPS may be an important contribution to educational technology, but questions may be raised about (1) the contribution of quizzes-cum-feedback-to-students to achievement, as measured by the. Test of Understanding in College Economics (TUCE), and (2) the effects of the interaction of personality variables and informative feedback (IF) intervals on achievement.

Purposes: 1. …

A Study Of Selected Walt Disney Screenplays And Films And The Stereotyping Of The Role Of The Female, Jerry P. Houseman

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Given this large involvement that children have with motion pictures, an educator is moved to inquire into the possible effects that movies might have upon them. It, therefore, seems appropriate that an educational dissertation be undertaken concentrating on Disney Production films, since as indicated by the foregoing, they are so universally viewed by American children.

Statement of the problem:

This study attempted to (1) analyze the five screenplays listed on page 6, (2) show two Disney films based on the screenplays analyzed to groups of children and administer a questionnaire to them. The investigator used the obtained data to determine …

A Comparative Study Of Twelfth-Grade Social Studies Using A Student-Activity Method, A Traditional Method, And A Combination Traditional-Activity Method Of Instruction., James Edward Darcy

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The problem statement. The twelfth grade social studies in the Merced Union High School District had been traditional in its organization and structure until the mid 1960's. 10 At that time the district-began to encourage teachers of government to draft new goals and innovate new methods of instruction in the government curriculum. Three separate methods of teaching twelfth grade social studies emerged as a result of that encouragement. In the Atwater High School, an activity-centered approach uses team teaching in which the emphasis is on having students involved in "doing" rather than listening and reading about government. This method includes …
