The Process Of Implementing Health-Promoting Schools In Zhejiang Province, China: A Dissertation, Carmen E. Aldinger

This study describes in detail the processes, interventions, challenges, and self-reported changes associated with implementing the Health-Promoting Schools (HPS) project in Zhejiang Province, China. It is a descriptive study, based on a case study model, using illustrative examples from nine schools. Grounded theory analysis revealed detailed pre-implementation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation processes; classroom-based, school-wide and outreach activities; and modifications to the physical and psycho-social school environment. Schools faced a number of challenges related to understanding and integrating the HPS concept and a lack of professional development and support. Relational Fathering: How Fathering Sons Affects Men's Relational Growth And Development: A Dissertation, Carol Watson-Philips

The purpose of this phenomenological study is to explore how fathering sons impacts men's relational growth and development. This qualitative study examines the meaning fathers make of their experience and describes their process of growth and development in connection with their sons. Twenty, mostly middle-class fathers, ages thirty-three to forty-six with sons ranging from one year to twelve years, were interviewed. Relational-Cultural Theory provides a theoretical framework. A grounded theory approach, a constructivist lens, and feminist analysis and research methods are employed. Are there alternatives to using violence between groups that have a history of collective mass violence between them? This is the underlying concern motivating the study: This concern is guided by my personal experience as a third generation Indian, growing up on stories of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition. The 1947 Partition was an event of collective mass violence between Hindus and Muslims. The two countries have since been "enemies." Despite the death and displacement of millions across the border, the event of partition, has been largely kept outside the public discourse. This study investigates what it means for women leaders to identify as White. The purpose is to examine a sense of racial identity and how that identity affects a sense of self as a leader. Twelve women answered questions from a designed interview protocol in two settings that occurred approximately four weeks apart.

This qualitative case study investigates the nature and role of a college mentor in facilitating the metacognitive development of college students with learning disabilities (LD). The researcher used three primary sources to triangulate the data for the inquiry: individual interviews with a mentor of college students with LD and three of her students; observations of sessions between the mentor and her students; and, documents from student files. The qualitative case study was conducted at Curry College. This site was chosen because of the specialized program for students with learning disabilities at this college.
