Teachers’ Perceptions Of Self-Regulated Learning In A Technology-Supported Collaborative Learning Environment, Sharon Davenport Jan 2021

Teachers’ Perceptions Of Self-Regulated Learning In A Technology-Supported Collaborative Learning Environment, Sharon Davenport

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In a local school district, sixth- through eighth-grade students were reading and performing on reading tests below grade level, and teachers started using strategies to promote self-regulated learning (SRL) in their classrooms. However, students continued to struggle with reading comprehension when asked to read independently. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the instructional strategies teachers used to implement SRL for reading and to explore the perspectives of middle-school teachers regarding how an SRL environment could affect students’ learning outcomes. Winne’s conditions, operations, products, evaluations, and standards (COPES) theory provided the conceptual framework for the study. Data …

Fidelity Of Implementation Of Arts Integration In Middle School English Language Arts, Barbara A. Sanders Jan 2020

Fidelity Of Implementation Of Arts Integration In Middle School English Language Arts, Barbara A. Sanders

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

An urban middle school in the southern U.S. introduced an arts integration (AI) program, however, student achievement in the English language arts (ELA) has not improved. Therefore, the problem to be investigated through this study is that it has not been determined if AI was implemented into ELA classrooms with fidelity. The purpose of this study was to examine teachers’ and administrators’ perceptions of the fidelity of implementation (FOI) of the AI program in the ELA classrooms, as well as school documents and artifacts, to determine whether the delivery of instruction replicated the original instructional design. Guided by Rogers’s FOI …

An Examination Of Teachers’ Perceptions Of The Literacy By 3 Reading Program, Erin Rochelle Green Jan 2020

An Examination Of Teachers’ Perceptions Of The Literacy By 3 Reading Program, Erin Rochelle Green

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Literacy By 3 (LB3) was created by administrators in a Southeastern U.S. school district to address 3rd graders’ low reading achievement. Little was understood about experiences, instructional practices, and perceptions of LB3 reading literacy teachers and coaches. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore teachers’ and coaches’ experiences, instructional practices, and perceptions with LB3. The conceptual framework was based on Cooperrider’s and Srivastva’s concept of appreciative inquiry that defines organization’s progress contingent on development of its successes. Research questions focused on teachers’ and coaches’ experiences, instructional practices, and perceptions using LB3 to improve reading literacy and what …

Teachers' Perceptions On English Language Arts Proficiency Of English Learners, Elaine Michelle Nelson Jan 2017

Teachers' Perceptions On English Language Arts Proficiency Of English Learners, Elaine Michelle Nelson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

English learners (ELs) at a middle school in California were not meeting federal accountability requirements in English language arts (ELA). ELs lacking proficiency in ELA often drop out of high school and live in poverty as adults. The purpose of the study was to examine teachers' perceptions of their self-efficacy to implement effective pedagogical strategies to help ELs develop ELA proficiency. A case study design was used to investigate the problem through the lens of second language acquisition theory. The purposeful sample included 11 middle school language arts teachers. Participants completed an online anonymous survey, and responses were analyzed using …

Elementary (K-5) Teachers' Perceptions Of Differentiated Instruction, Christopher Maddox Jan 2015

Elementary (K-5) Teachers' Perceptions Of Differentiated Instruction, Christopher Maddox

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Differentiated instruction is a pedagogical method used by classroom teachers to enhance student learning. Researchers have described how students benefit from differentiated lessons, but have not explored the relationship between teachers' perceptions of differentiation and student success. This gap is problematic because teachers' instruction directly affects student achievement. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to explore how elementary (K-5) teachers define, familiarize, use, and perceive differentiation. The conceptual framework was rooted from a synthesis of ideas found in current refereed literature, and the educational concepts and constructionist theories of Piaget and Vygotsky. Purposeful sampling identified 12 participants for …
