This qualitative case study uses the Capability Approach (CA) as a framework for experiential learning courses in the Faculty of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Windsor, in Ontario, Canada. Specifically, this is a case study of two courses titled Ways of Knowing and Ways of Doing that are offered as undergraduate general credit electives. In this paper, we describe the case study context and provide a brief introduction to the CA. The Faculty of Education at a Southwestern Ontario, Canadian University appointed an Experiential Learning Specialist (ELS) as a member of the Faculty in 2007. The Experiential Learning Specialist acts as an impartial resource for all members of the educational community (teacher candidates, faculty, staff, school partners), by providing counselling, collaboration and mediation to promote social justice and equity in teacher education. Associate Teacher Perspectives Of The Triumvirate Relationship In Teacher Education: The Role Of Faculty Advisors, Roland Karen

The literature suggests that teacher candidates identify the field experience as a valued aspect of their pre-service education. In field experience, associate teachers are significant contributors to the success of the triumvirate relationship (associate teacher/teacher candidate/faculty advisor). A study was conducted using an anonymous questionnaire to explore, from the perspective of associate teachers, potential strategies and/or recommendations that may strengthen this relationship. The findings of the study, specifically related to the expectations concerning the role of the faculty advisor to support associate teachers, are presented. Reflective practice is discussed in terms of its relevance to the triumvirate relationship. The article …
