The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to explore the acculturation experiences of underschooled Latin American English Learners (ELs) in a secondary school in the southern part of the United States. The underschooled ELs are defined as English learners ranging in ages from 13-17 years old who have come from another country in Latin America within a three-year time span having three years or less of educational schooling in their native country. Employment mentoring has been found to have many benefits to newcomer mentees. TRIEC Mentoring Partnership (TMP) is an occupation-specific mentoring program for skilled newcomers that has successfully helped thousands of newcomers build their professional networks and learn more about the Canadian workplace and the labour market. The demand for TMP programs currently far outweighs the supply. While TMP has had great success in recruiting mentors in some professions, it has had limited success in recruiting mentors from other professions.
