OMAHA - Starting with the Fall 2016 semester, the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) will offer a Bachelors of Science in Education with an Early Childhood Inclusive focus.

The degree program, which was approved last week by the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education (CCPE) brings together faculty from UNO's Teacher Education Department and Special Education and Communication Disorders Department to prepare future educators to support a wide range of needs young learners may face during their formative years.

The UNO Testing Center is offering exam proctoring services to all UNO faculty who teach an online Distance Education (DE) course beginning the Spring 2016 semester. Interested faculty are to contact John Golka, Testing Center Director, at unotestingcenter@unomaha.edu or 402.554.4800 to discuss exam proctoring arrangements. Faculty with arrangements will be forwarded a Distance Education Instructor Testing Request Form. This is to be returned via email to the address noted on the form by December 21 , 2015. The importance of effective curriculum design and development in structuring and supporting learners in their knowledge attainment has been outlined in the writings of Tyler (1949) [1] which supports the approach adopted in European Higher Education stemming from the 1999 Bologna Declaration (European Commission, 2009). These structures are assisted in part by national and European qualification frameworks and the Dublin descriptors which are explicit of the variances in knowledge, skill and competence as one progresses in higher education and training. Adjustments to the Criteria for Accreditation and Assumed Practices are considered by the Board annually, usually with first reading in February and second reading in June. These adjustments are based on comments received from institutions and peer reviewers when they find that certain Core Components and Assumed Practices require clarification or are subject to misinterpretation.

The proposed changes were circulated to the membership and other interested parties this spring. HLC received approximately 35 comments regarding the proposed changes to the Assumed Practices related to faculty qualifications. Online Education, Accrediting Standards, And Student Success: An Examination Of The Relationship Between The Southern Association Of Colleges And Schools Commission On Colleges Standards For Online Education And Student Success, Michael Porter

Prior to 2000, there were less than 1.6 million students enrolled in at least one online course. By fall 2010, student enrollment in online distance education showed a phenomenal 283% increase to 6.1 million. Two years later, this number had grown to 7.1 million. In light of this significant growth and skepticism about quality, there have been calls for greater oversight of this format of educational delivery. Accrediting bodies tasked with this oversight have developed guidelines and standards for online education.

There is a lack of empirical studies that examine the relationship between accrediting standards and student success. The purpose …

This paper focuses on examining the practice of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) a provision which allows a learner present previously acquired relevant learning for assessment for credit. In general all forms of learning are formally recognised within an RPL system which includes informal, non formal and formal learning. The key misconception within higher education can be that RPL requires a different quality assurance system than that of conventional assessment methods.
