Characteristics Of The Effective Online Teaching Faculty: Perspectives Of Online University Administrators, Dina Samora
Characteristics Of The Effective Online Teaching Faculty: Perspectives Of Online University Administrators, Dina Samora
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this explorative qualitative case study was to identify the characteristics online administrators reveal as existing in their most effective, and ineffective online teaching faculty (OTF). By identifying the characteristics of effective OTF, online administrators can develop practices to reduce and avoid the negative effects associated with ineffective OTF. Negative effects include increased transactional distance and student attrition. Analyzed were personal interviews of ten online administrators from eight different universities, a year of student surveys from six courses, and faculty handbooks. Interview questions sought the best approach to online facilitation, recommendations for retention of students, factors related to …
A Distance Education Classroom Designed To Facilitate Synchronous Learner And Instructor Interactions, Stuart P. Bernstein
A Distance Education Classroom Designed To Facilitate Synchronous Learner And Instructor Interactions, Stuart P. Bernstein
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The purpose of this study was to determine whether a live, synchronous distance delivery technology would facilitate interaction, immediacy, and presence between an instructor and his contiguous and remote classrooms, and whether it would facilitate interaction between the two groups of students. This study researched the opinions of students on whether they felt the platform facilitated interaction between the two groups of learners, both groups of learners and the instructor, and both groups of learners and the content.
This research followed the development and testing of a synchronous delivery platform that would replicate a traditional, interactive, classroom in a remote …
The Relationship Between Faculty Perceptions And Implementation Of Elements Of Transactional Distance Theory And Online Web-Based Course Completion Rates, Victor Nwankwo
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between faculty perceptions, selected demographics, implementation of elements of transactional distance theory and online web-based course completion rates. This theory posits that the high transactional distance of online courses makes it difficult for students to complete these courses successfully; too often this is associated with low completion rates. Faculty members play an indispensable role in course design, whether online or face-to-face. They also influence course delivery format from design through implementation and ultimately to how students will experience the course. This study used transactional distance theory as the conceptual framework …
