This twenty-minute Powerpoint presentation will describe the team-taught, year-long Foundations Core Concepts Program at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. It has been in place since 2006 and has successfully integrated a course previously called "Language of Art" (taught by an art historian) with hands-on studio assignments previously taught in a stand-alone design course (taught by a studio professor). We have found that this hybrid approach is extremely effective in developing sensitive and articulate art majors who are prepared to integrate design concepts into all of their artworks and to analyze and describe eloquently both personal and historical works of …

How can we effectively teach students to be professional artists at a time when some of society’s economic values are so unrealistic? This study explores the modern quilting movement from the perspective of members of the Modern Quilt Guild (MQG), a new guild that includes both online and in-person elements. Twenty-six members of seven MQG’s across the United States were interviewed. The interviews focused on the factors that draw participants into the MQG as well as how the art/craft debate shapes the experiences of modern quilters. This study concludes that modern quilting is both an attitude and an aesthetic. The attitude of modern quilting encompasses common themes among participants like the lack of rules dictating their quilting practices and an open and …

A review of current worship literature reveals very little guidance to assist Protestant church leaders in training, discipling or mentoring congregational worship leadership. Therefore, this thesis project researched and presents a basic rationale for developing worship leadership discipling curricula strategically targeting the needs related to discipling and training artistic Christians who are called to worship leadership in the local church.

The Ruth E. Engle Memorial Collection of Children's Book Illustration celebrates the art we first met as children and recalls our enchantment with the magical pairing of story and picture. Libraries have traditionally collected and displayed art and illustration, particularly the latter because of its affinity to literature. With this expanding collection of original artworks created by award-winning illustrators from around the world, Murray Library embraces that tradition. In addition to supporting the education and art curriculum, the Engle Memorial Collection inspires student and faculty research and is an ideal destination for field trips by students from area schools.
