Student success is central to UMaine's mission, values, reputation and fiscal health. Improving first-year student success is a major focus for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs in 2018- 2019. On September 27, the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost launched the public phase of this initiative. The goal: to develop an integrated plan of actions that will result in improved first year student success as defined by first year retention.

The Student Government Reserve Fund was established in the University of Maine Foundation in 2003 for the benefit of the University of Maine’s undergraduate student leaders. The funds were transferred to the University of Maine Foundation from Student Government, Inc.’s emergency cash reserve.

The fund shall be used to provide annual awards of $500 for every $8,000 in the fund (Market Value.) No partial awards shall be granted. The fund may not necessarily exist in perpetuity. The total award amount may be designated to as few as one undergraduate Student, or one award may be given for every $500 available …

Seventeen students were initiated into the Kappa Delta Pi honor society for aspiring teachers during a recent ceremony at the University of Maine. To be eligible for membership in Kappa Delta Pi, students must have reached their junior year with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and, in addition to scholarship, demonstrate leadership and commitment to education.
