Perceptions Of Agriculture And Natural Resource M.S. Graduates Regarding Program Quality And Learning Outcomes Attainment, Mark D. Shelton, James J. Ahern, Douglas D. Piirto, April England

Office of the Dean (CAFES) Scholarship

Master's degree recipients from the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) at Cal Poly State University were surveyed to assess 1) their satisfaction with the M.S. program, and 2) the extent to which key learning outcomes were attained. Emphasis was placed on the graduate's perception of the value of their thesis or creative project experience in developing technical competency and skills in communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and decision making.

CAFES M.S. alumni were generally positive in their perception of the graduate program, though written comments indicated dissatisfaction with various program aspects among some graduates. Most respondents felt …

Lowman’s Two Dimensional Model for teaching effectiveness has been included in the seminar on Teaching and Learning for the past seven years in the ExCEEd Teaching Workshops. The two dimensional model describes nine different classifications of teachers that range low to high performance in the areas of intellectual excitement and interpersonal rapport. Participant feedback has consistently indicated that the model would be easier to understand if it included examples of teachers in these various categories. What Teachers Think: An Investigation Of Teachers’ Perceptions Regarding The Superintendent’S Influence On Instruction And Learning, George J. Petersen, Chad W. Sayre, Victoria L. Kelly

Using the conceptual lenses of superintendent instructional leadership and instructional capacity, this investigation explored teachers’ views of their superintendent’s ability to influence classroom instruction and teachers’ ability to produce student learning. Data were drawn from seven medium sized school districts in the Midwest. Two hundred and seventy nine teachers completed a questionnaire that examined factors related to teachers’ perceptions of the superintendent’s role in fostering instructional capacity as well as involvement of teachers in their own professional development. The role of the teacher in the classroom carries tremendous responsibility. A group of students that can range from a half-dozen to several hundred depend on their professor to provide structure to a body of knowledge, to guide the learning process, to convey difficult subjects in a clear manner, to lead the classroom and out-of-class activities so that student time is used efficiently, and to provide a course of instruction in which the students can successfully complete the learning objectives.
