All students must have opportunities to achieve high levels of mathematics learning, thus, organizational settings in the field of education should be carefully examined to determine the extent to which the instructional environment affects student achievement, growth, and application of grade level standards for students identified as economically disadvantaged. The purpose of this quantitative, causal-comparative study was to investigate differences in mathematical proficiency of economically disadvantaged fourth-grade students in departmentalized versus traditional instructional settings as measured by the 2019 Maryland PARCC mathematics assessment.
