Analysis Of The Baseline Assessments Conducted In 35 U.S. State/Territory Emergency Management Programs: Emergency Management Accreditation Program (Emap) 2003-2004, Valerie Lucus Cem, Cbcp

Valerie Lucus-McEwen CEM CBCP

The Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) is a non profit organization developed to accredit government emergency management programs in the 56 U.S. states and territories. This accreditation model is based on the NFPA 1600 Standard on Disaster/Emergency Management and Business Continuity Programs. In 2003, the Federal Emergency Management Agency funded EMAP to conduct baseline assessments of each U.S. state and territory to assess their emergency management capabilities. Between January 2003 and December 2004, EMAP conducted baseline assessments of 35 U.S. state and territory emergency management programs. This study was designed to analyze the results of those assessments, and suggests most …

Lion In Winter – Tomás Moro Na Nossa Estação. Diálogos Com O Direito Constitucional, O Cristianismo E A Utopia Social, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

High-Stakes Testing: Can Rapid Assessment Reduce The Pressure?, Stuart S. Yeh Dec 2005

High-Stakes Testing: Can Rapid Assessment Reduce The Pressure?, Stuart S. Yeh

Stuart S Yeh

This article presents findings about the implementation of a system for rapidly assessing student progress in math and reading in grades K–12—a system that potentially could reduce pressure on teachers resulting from high-stakes testing and the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act. Interviews with 49 teachers and administrators in one Texas school district suggest that the assessments allowed teachers to individualize and target instruction; provide more tutoring; reduce drill and practice; and improve student readiness for, and spend more time on, critical thinking activities, resulting in a more balanced curriculum. Teachers reported that the assessments provided a common …

Politeia And Paideia. “Reminiscences” Of Western Political Thought In A Reading Of Plato’S Politeia, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha Dec 2005

Politeia And Paideia. “Reminiscences” Of Western Political Thought In A Reading Of Plato’S Politeia, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Paulo Ferreira da Cunha

Many readings have been proposed of the Politeia. We propose here a brief reflection of the intertextual type, not upon the theme or main themes of this work, but more precisely in search of aspects that also seem to have acquired a posterity (or at any rate a universality that allows for the detection of coincidences). It is not merely that Plato’s great utopian ideas have found an echo in later authors, as one the most important of western politico-philosophical canons. It is also that some topics and arguments that appear through this richly magnificent dialogue seem to have had …

The Worsley Energy Challenge To Reduce Energy Consumption: Report On The Project Start-Up, Sandra Wooltorton, Richard Jeffreys

Sandra Wooltorton

The Worsley Alumina Energy Challenge (WAEC) is an innovative sustainability education project that connects four schools, the South West branch of the Australian Association of Environmental Education (AAEE), two universities and a corporation, Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd (Worsley). As part of its corporate sustainability
responsibility, Worsley is providing renewable energy systems to the schools including photovoltaic, wind and biodiesel equipment. The type and size of the systems are based on each school's physical location, size and local community context. In turn, the schools have committed themselves to attempting to reduce their power consumption by 20% per capita over a five-year …
