Letter From The Editor In Chief, Jeffrey Lee
Letter From The Editor In Chief, Jeffrey Lee
Transform
The TRANSFORM journal is a space for leaders, mentors, researchers, and practitioners of transformational leadership to be seen, heard, and valued; it is a place for making connections. Relationship-building is central to transformational leadership at all levels of an organization; this fundamental truth is a trending topic in literature. Otherwise, however, leadership can be an isolating experience.
As an ethnographer, I believe the best way to launch an academic, peer-reviewed journal is to do what I do best: storytelling. I want to share my thoughts on transformational leadership through a story in the form of a letter to my younger …

Journal on Empowering Teaching Excellence
Whether it be videotaping, guided classroom conversations, lecture-based, or written, feedback is the backbone of educational excellence. We use it to mentor beginning undergraduates, writers, readers, explorers, and experimenters. And, if we are thoughtful, feedback becomes a loop by which we slow down learning, we engage reading, writing and exploring, and we collaborate our way to becoming better.

The Hidden Curriculum Of Starting An Open-Access Online Journal: An Editor’S Perspective, Sydney Freeman Jr.
Journal of Research Initiatives
Starting a new academic journal is a scholarly undertaking that is not taught in graduate school. However, higher education professors may well find it necessary to engage in journal work during their careers. As available literature gives little direction for prospective journal founders and editors, this article provides a Scholarly Personal Narrative (SPN) account of a Senior Editor-in-Chief’s journey through the process of establishing a new academic journal. Challenges inherent to the process are discussed, and recommendations are provided for prospective editors.

Effects Of A Graphic Organizer Intervention Package On The Mathematics Word Problem Solving Abilities Of Students With Autism Spectrum Disorders, Lauren A. Delisio, Caitlyn A. Bukaty, Matthew Taylor
The Journal of Special Education Apprenticeship
Many of the top 21 st century careers require advanced mathematics skills. However, mathematics is a known area of difficulty for students with disabilities (SWD), as they struggle in this area at a higher rate than peers without disabilities (O’Brien, 2016). Mathematical word problems incorporate comprehension of written language, an area known to pose additional challenges for SWD identified as having autism spectrum disorders (ASD; Smith-Myles, Simpson, & Becker, 1995). The authors describe an intervention involving the K-N-W-S graphic organizer, studied for the first time with the intent of examining its effect on mathematical word problem solving of students with …

Open Access Publishing In Higher Education: Charting The Challenging Course To Academic And Financial Sustainability, Mark I. Greenberg Mls, Ph.D.
Journal of Educational Controversy
The benefits, pitfalls, and sustainability of open access publishing are hotly debated. Commercial publishers dominate the marketplace and oppose alternative publishing models that threaten their bottom line. Scholars’ use of open access remains relatively limited due to awareness and perceived benefits to their professional goals. Readership of open access publications is generally strong, but some people disagree that more readers leads to increased citations and research impact. Libraries have grown their influence by supporting and promoting open access, but these efforts come with significant financial costs. Today, open access has flourished most significantly as a philosophy: the belief that the …
Scholarly Inbreeding In Latin American Academically Managed Journals, Erwin Krauskopf
Scholarly Inbreeding In Latin American Academically Managed Journals, Erwin Krauskopf
Higher Learning Research Communications
From a bibliometric perspective, scholarly inbreeding has been identified in journals through the excessive use of both author and journal self-citations. However, editorial bias toward researchers from the same institution as the editorial management team has seldom been considered. According to the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, this occurs when a journal publishes more than 20% of documents authored by researchers affiliated with the same institution as the editorial management team. The purpose of this study is to establish the extent to which 81 Latin American journals managed by universities publish intramural documents (defined as those published by its …
