Situational And Personal Determinants Of Corruption In Sport, Jacek Gracz
Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity
Maximization of action, social acceptance, long-lasting training, competition, and motor activity are usually mentioned among situational dimensions. Taking into account that all human actions, inclusive of the corruptive ones, have their psycho-social aspect and, according to the paradigm of interactive psychology, belong at the same time to the social and psychological reality, it might be expected that the dimensions of a competitive sport situation may be significantly decisive to the manner of formulation and realization of sport goals. In conclusions of the research the author presents that the level of inclination to corruption is significantly differentiated among particular sports and …
The Point Spread As A Reference Point: Evidence From The National Basketball Association, George Diemer, Michael Leeds
The Point Spread As A Reference Point: Evidence From The National Basketball Association, George Diemer, Michael Leeds
Journal of Applied Sport Management
A contentious literature surrounds the claim that heavy favorites’ failure to cover the point-spread in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball could indicate point-shaving. This paper extends the literature by using a new methodology to show that favorites in the National Basketball Association (NBA) also frequently fail to cover the spread. However, the high salaries in the NBA make point-shaving by players unlikely. Moreover, heavy underdogs also fail to cover the point spread and lose by more than expected. These seemingly anomalous findings are consistent with underdogs’ using the point-spread as a reference point.

Abstract: The writing, as terrible as it is, is nevertheless reassuring, because it puts the difficult moments in image, in word; it connects us to past experiences, to men and women who went through them, going through moments of hardship, but also of consolation. The goal of literature writing is not just the disaster itself, but, it is also about taking care of oneself and others and to express how society has experienced this disaster and how to remedy it. Even more, the catastrophe sometimes goes beyond the framework of the country to reach the extent of the whole world. …

From Hell: The Surge Of Corruption In Nigeria (1999 – 2007), Segun Oshewolo, J. Olanrewaju
Academic Leadership: The Online Journal (2003-2012)
Nigeria is one of the world’s most endowed nations, with abundant human and natural resources. These resources are located in all the states of the federation and exist in commercial quantities (see Ajibewa, 2006:261). The proceeds from these resources have been disproportionately distributed to the disadvantage of the poor population while through the paraphernalia of the presidium of government, the allocation of resources has been done to generously favour the ruling and business elites as well as their cronies. This situation has given rise to the grave issue of inequality in the country. The availability of these resources notwithstanding, Nigeria …
