Ksu's Digital Course Repository (Dcr), Kimberly S. Loomis, Heather Hankins

All Things Open

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, KSU faculty saw an opportunity to teach in the digital space and developed many effective courses in online and hybrid formats. The KSU Distinguished Course Repository (DCR) was created to catalog, recognize excellence, and showcase these courses, and to provide access to others, all in support of ongoing student success. Submitted courses are required to have a Creative Commons Attribution-4.0 International Public License, since they are expected to be shared and modified by future faculty. Publication in the DCR is beneficial to faculty, students, and programs, and the DCR itself is an excellent example of …

The Pedagogical Pitfalls Of Literature In College Composition And Teacher Education: A Foundational Analysis, Rinn Norman Apr 2022

The Pedagogical Pitfalls Of Literature In College Composition And Teacher Education: A Foundational Analysis, Rinn Norman

Symposium of Student Scholars

Many of today’s college students struggle with college-level writing in Standard English, and during the last few decades, educators, parents, and experts in countless professional fields have begun to express a collective frustration over the quality of college graduates’ written English. However, this lack of quality in students’ and graduates’ writing is not due to laziness or generational differences, but rather a foundational shortcoming in the use of literary texts as the basis for instructional material in lower-level composition classes. This paper examines the traditional use of literature-based instruction in first-year composition (FYC) classes as well as undergraduate and graduate …

The Literature Review: A Learning Tool, Olga Koz Mar 2020

The Literature Review: A Learning Tool, Olga Koz

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students

Literature reviews are the source of constant stress among doctoral and master level students and, at the same time, the most popular assignment among instructors. After teaching numerous workshops, webinars, Literature Review Bootcamps, and co-teaching “literature review modules,” I decided to create an interactive web-based learning tool, the Literature Review Design (LRD).

You are welcome to use it before the workshop. Access URL:http://libguides.kennesaw.edu/LRDesign

During this workshop, I will share with you the information about the tool and demonstrate how it was used as a complementary learning aid to scaffold instruction and within the KSU Interactive Research Method Lab. You …

Developing The Community Of Researchers: A Role Of An Academic Librarian, Olga Koz Mar 2020

Developing The Community Of Researchers: A Role Of An Academic Librarian, Olga Koz

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students

When instructors and researchers work together to support the entire research lifecycle, amazing things happen! Find out how the Research Consortium at the KSU College of Education is combining the skills of the librarian and faculty members to foster the scholar identity, research skills, and scholarly communication competencies of researchers. Through a Research Consortium, we are developing collaborative research models, tools, and resources that support everyone, from doctoral students to teachers - scholars in the field.

The presenter, an academic librarian and a member of the KSU College of Education Research Consortium, will describe examples of how a productive alliance …

Study Of Physical Layer Security And Teaching Methods In Wireless Communications, Zhijian Xie, Christopher Horne Oct 2018

Study Of Physical Layer Security And Teaching Methods In Wireless Communications, Zhijian Xie, Christopher Horne

KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

In most wireless channels, the signals propagate in all directions. For the communication between Alice and Bob, an Eavesdropper can receive the signals from both Alice and Bob as far as the Eavesdropper is in the range determined by the transmitting power. Through phased array antenna with beam tracking circuits or cooperative iteration, the signals are confined near the straight line connecting the positions of Alice and Bob, so it will largely reduce the valid placement of an Eavesdropper. Sometimes, this reduction can be prohibitive for Eavesdropper to wiretap the channel since the reduced space can be readily protected. Two …
