Spring Great Expectation Faculty Conference

The 2022 Great Expectations Spring Faculty Conference featured a talk about renewal in file drawers facilitated by Alison Prindle (Professor Emerita of English, INST Chair 1987-1994) and Beth Daugherty (Professor Emerita of English, INST Chair 1994-2000).

After the talk, various groups and departments offered programs that talked about the experiences of the groups, the use of Open Education Resources, and integrating ecological knowledge into the curriculum. The day finished out with a discussion of the 2022-2023 common book, What The Eyes Don't See by Mona Hanna-Attisha.

This video was originally filmed and published during the COVID-19 Pandemic as part of the 2020 UMaine Virtual Homecoming. This video introduces viewers to the resources available through the University Archive at Fogler Library.

Purdue at 150: A Visual History of Student Life by David M. Hovde, Adriana Harmeyer, Neal Harmeyer, and Sammie L. Morris tells Purdue’s story through rare images, artifacts, and words. Authors culled decades of student papers, from scrapbooks, yearbooks, letters, and newspapers to historical photographs and memorabilia preserved in the Purdue University Libraries Virginia Kelly Karnes Archives and Special Collections. Many of the images and artifacts included have never been published, presenting a unique history of Purdue University from the student perspective.

Ellen Adair was a sweet, somewhat silly 17-year-old and well into her second year at Hollins Institute when one day in January 1863, with the Civil War showing no sign of ending anytime soon, her father unexpectedly showed up to take her home. Ellen’s idyllic days as a Hollins student were ending, and fate held cards it had yet to show. Diary entries from the period show the impact of war on a formerly quiet part of the state.
