Comparing The Assessment Knowledge And Self-Efficacy Of Science, Technology, Engineering, And Mathematics Faculty With Faculty From Other Disciplines, Karen Elizabeth Braley

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Based on reported success and retention rates, there is a need to improve education in 2-year colleges for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors. Instructors’ assessment knowledge and self-efficacy have not been studied in 2-year or STEM higher education. The problem addressed in this study was that scholars do not know the extent of differences in assessment knowledge and assessment self-efficacy of STEM and non-STEM faculty that could be a contributing factor in student success rates. The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine the extent of differences in STEM and non-STEM instructor assessment knowledge and self-efficacy as …

Assessment Literacy Of Middle School Music Educators, William Gordon Daines

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In a school district in the Southwestern region of the United States, middle school music educators did not participate in district-wide initiatives to improve teacher assessment literacy, which encompasses the assessment knowledge and practices of teachers in support of student learning. The educators varied widely in their grading and assessment knowledge and practices. The purpose of this qualitative explanatory case study was to explore the middle school music educators’ perspectives of their assessment knowledge and practices in the classroom and how they used assessments to evaluate students’ knowledge and skills in music. Principals’ Transformational Leadership Practices In Increasing Reading Achievement For Ells, Michelle Jeffrey Jan 2022

Principals’ Transformational Leadership Practices In Increasing Reading Achievement For Ells, Michelle Jeffrey

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Principals in public schools are being challenged to improve English language learning (ELL) student achievement through transformational leadership practices. This qualitative study aimed to explore the aspects of transformational leadership that principals use to reduce the disproportionate level in state summative reading assessments between ELL students and their non-ELL peers. The conceptual framework that supported this study was Burns’ theory of transformational leadership. The research question focused on how principals in public school settings employed transformational leadership practices to support a reduction in ELL students’ disproportionate achievement in reading. Semi structured interviews were used to collect data from 10 principals …

The Relationship Of Coaching On Quality Ratings In Early Childhood Care, Michelle Renee Burkhard

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Early childhood educators serving children ages birth through 8 years seek to continuously improve the quality of the learning environment and curriculum practice. All 50 states created a Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) to assess childcare center program quality and provide coaching for teachers. Early childhood education programs with intentional coaching score higher on several measures of quality associated with better child outcomes. Research demonstrates that there is a gap in understanding the relationship of coaching to quality scores within one Northcentral state’s childcare centers. The purpose of this quasi experimental quantitative study was to determine the difference in mean …

Faculty Experiences Using Synchronous Videoconference Technology To Assess Student Psychomotor Performance, Heather Disney

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Psychomotor skills are an essential aspect of physical therapy (PT) education. Recent studies supported using videoconference technology (VCT) for psychomotor instruction, but research on the use of VCT for psychomotor assessments is limited. Determining VCT’s usefulness for psychomotor exams is vital to establish best pedagogical practices. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore the faculty experience using synchronous VCT to assess PT student’s psychomotor skills. The conceptual framework for this study was the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The research question investigated how PT educators described the psychomotor skill assessment of students using …
