What is the importance of institutional history and special collections in a digital environment? Should these pieces of history have their own digital platform or be merged with the institutional repository? What role do repositories play in the institutional environment? What impact do digital historical collections have on the stakeholder contingent as well as the global community? The speakers will discuss the rationale behind migrating collections from CONTENTdm to institutional repositories (all using bepress’s Digital Commons platform). The FDLA Journal, FDLA Conference, and FAMTE's journal, Transformations, are now hosted in Nova Southeastern University's NSUWorks, a repository managed by the NSU Libraries. NSUWorks' primary librarian administrator will speak about submitting to the journals and conference along with the benefits authors will receive from having their work published online. She and the Education subject specialist of NSU's Alvin Sherman Library will also cover additional open access avenues for publication and free research resources for higher education and K-12 teachers.

In order to explain the falling Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in Japan, it is necessary to look at the social factors affecting women and raising children in Japan. By examining historical factors surrounding women in Japan—their education, their presence in the workforce, and the cultural stigmas attached to their stereotypical representation—I will attempt to describe the deteriorating TFR in Japan as an economic problem with political and social repercussions. In conclusion I will also try to provide a prognosis and a recommendation for a solution.
