A Quasi-Experimental Study Looking At The Effect Of Project-Based Learning On Sixth-Grade Students' Self-Concept, Miranda C. Carter
A Quasi-Experimental Study Looking At The Effect Of Project-Based Learning On Sixth-Grade Students' Self-Concept, Miranda C. Carter
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This quantitative, quasi-experimental study investigated the differences in self-concept among sixth-grade students across various school subjects, particularly reading and mathematics, by comparing those engaged in project-based learning versus traditional learning. In rural eastern Virginia, the researcher utilized a modified version of the Self Description Questionnaire-I (SDQ-I) and a nonequivalent control group, pre/posttest design with analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) during the 2023–2024 academic year. Focusing on a Virginia middle school, classes were randomly assigned to either treatment, which was project-based learning, or control, which included traditional learning methods. The mean self-concept scores across three SDQ-I subscales—reading, mathematics, and all school subjects—served …
Recommendations To Improve Active Learning Implementation At The National Security Space Institute In Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mark S. Mitchell
Recommendations To Improve Active Learning Implementation At The National Security Space Institute In Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mark S. Mitchell
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this research study was to provide recommendations to university leaders to improve active learning implementation at the National Security Space Institute in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The problem is that 80% of the faculty at the National Security Space Institute faced a forced transition into active learning with no pre-evaluation, coordination, or effective training with the faculty. (NSSI, n.d.). A study conducted to identify and provide recommendations will help improve active learning implementation at the National Security Space Institute. This is an applied research study using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. This research study addresses the central question …
Project-Based Learning And Its Impact On High School Students' Attitudes Towards Mathematics: A Quantitative Study, David E. Postlethwait
Project-Based Learning And Its Impact On High School Students' Attitudes Towards Mathematics: A Quantitative Study, David E. Postlethwait
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This quantitative, quasi experimental, nonequivalent control group study analyzed the relationship between students engaging in project-based learning and its impact on their attitudes towards mathematics. Sixty-six high school students taking a non-entry level mathematics class participated in the study. This study compared students taking the same high school mathematics course with one group taught in the traditional way of lecture notes and tests and the second group being taught using projects. These students’ responses from the Attitudes Towards Mathematics Inventory were compared using one-way analysis of covariance to determine a difference in student attitudes. The study determined that there was …
