Teaching as a profession is becoming more and more difficult. School districts are facing a teacher shortage, creating greater focus on recruitment and retention efforts. The majority of these efforts focus on novice teachers (within the first five years) providing support and assistance to help keep them in the classroom. Less effort is placed upon assisting the veteran teacher in maintaining effort in the classroom and avoiding burnout. Those who experience burnout or become disheartened show a reduction in effort negatively impacting student achievement. The purpose of this case study was to investigate the perceptions of 10 educators pertaining to their self-efficacy while working in an involuntary enrollment alternative school. The participants were secondary educators from an urban school district in the midwestern United States who served in varying capacities. The theory guiding this study was Bandura’s self-efficacy theory. Teacher recruitment and retention is a growing concern for educational organizations. This is in large part due to the increasing work demands and underfunding of public funding. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between teacher motivation and the adaptive factor of self-efficacy. The theoretical frameworks of Bandura’s social learning theory, Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory, and Rotter’s locus of control theory were used to guide this study. The purpose of this multiple regression study was to examine the relationship between multicultural self-efficacy and culturally responsive classroom management self-efficacy (CRCMSE). In addition, the study examined if attitude toward diversity and experience with diversity are significant predictors of teachers’ sense of CRCMSE. The Multicultural Efficacy Scale (MES) and CRCMSE Scale was distributed to a sample of K-12 public school teachers working in a large Virginia school division. The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to understand perceptions of self-efficacy in science pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) for novice elementary school teachers at various elementary schools in central Georgia. Novice elementary school teachers were those traditionally prepared, and self-efficacy was the confidence in science PCK for elementary school teachers. The two theories guiding this study included Bandura’s self-efficacy theory and Shulman’s theory of PCK, as they supported the process of self-efficacy and PCK of novice elementary school teachers. The purpose of this applied study was to solve the problem of low standardized test scores in a remedial class for a middle school in southern Virginia and to formulate a solution to address the problem. The central research question that data collection attempted to answer was: How can the problem of low standardized test scores in a remedial math class be solved in a middle school in southern Virginia? The purpose of this qualitative, multiple-case study was to understand the pedagogy and attitudes of teachers when faced with the presence of school-based mental health professionals in the classrooms in two schools in southwestern Virginia. Semi-structured interviews, with open-ended questions, document analysis, and participant observations were utilized to collect data. This study examined the difference in school librarians’ self-efficacy between elementary, middle, and high school librarians. It also attempted to determine if self-efficacy levels in elementary school librarians can predict the overall average pass rates on the Virginia Standards of Learning Reading assessment for their schools. The study was conducted quantitatively using the Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale that was sent out electronically to members of the Virginia Association of School Librarians contact list, using a convenience sample of 234 school librarians across the state of Virginia as well as the results of the Virginia Standards of Learning reading scores. …

Classical Christian schools have increased exponentially over the past 20 years. The main mission of a classical Christian education is to produce a student who is better equipped to think and apply the Christian worldview to every situation. Classical schools are based on the Greek Trivium which focuses on the tools of learning: grammar school, logic school, and rhetoric school. Classical tenets include integration of content, memorization of basic facts, and reliance on the Socratic Method. Self-efficacy for biblical learning was explored in the context of a small group experience focused on how to study the Bible. After first developing a new instrument to measure self-efficacy for biblical learning in a pilot study, ten church attendees participated in a seven-week course designed around the hermeneutical principles of understanding a Scripture passage in textual and historical context, placing the passage in the grand story of God, and relating it to relevant doctrine. The small group process employed micro-teaching as a mechanism to facilitate challenge and mastery experience in learning. Micro-teaching places the student in the role of …
