Researchers posit that teachers’ excessive absences may be caused by a lack of commitment or dissatisfaction with their jobs due to school environments and relationships, and a lack of commitment can ultimately influence student achievement. This correlational study sought to determine any relationship between teachers’ absenteeism and job satisfaction as mitigated by perceptions of favoritism. The participants included 38 teachers among 24 primary and secondary schools in a medium-size, rural, school district. Online education has become a significant part of the strategic growth and health of institutions of higher education (HEIs) today. The purpose of this collective case study was to describe special education teacher and administrator perceptions of administrator practices that support job satisfaction of special education teachers in a rural Southwest Virginia public school district. Recent research has shown that teacher burnout is a contributing factor to many teachers leaving the field of education early on in their careers. Many teachers of all levels and subjects leave before ever reaching their full potential due to decreased job-satisfaction and the overwhelming symptoms of burnout crippling other areas of their life.
