The Relationship Between Students' Tracking Of Their Learning Data And Overall Academic Achievement In Fifth-Grade Mathematics, Angela Van Sant Poag

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Teachers are in a constant cycle of data collection to guide instruction and increase student achievement; however, students are not always involved in the data collection or discussion of their own learning data. The purpose of this correlational study was to explore the relationship between students’ tracking of their own learning data and their academic achievement in fifth-grade mathematics as measured by the aimswebPlus assessment. A convenience sample of 154 students from a middle school in a southern Tennessee school district participated in the study using archival data. A Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the null hypothesis …

The Effect Of Augmented Reality On Learning In The Mathematics Classroom, Justin Thomas Maffei

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This study examined the impact of two treatments, augmented reality or concrete materials, on the Geometry knowledge of high school students. Participating classes were chosen from two secondary schools between two rural Virginia school districts. The sampling method selected for the study employed a convenience sample. There were 87 total participants in the study. The importance of this study emerged from a lack of research relating the use of augmented reality in the classroom to its effect on student learning. The purpose of this quantitative pretest-posttest, non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental study was to evaluate the difference in achievement scores, as …

Comparison Study Between Math Test Scores For Brick And Mortar And Online Classrooms, Marisa May

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

With the emergence of online education, opportunities have risen for students who seek alternatives to attending a traditional school. However, the rise of virtual education has highlighted the challenges educators and students face in this environment such as academic integrity and quality control. In both learning environments, students often struggle to grasp mathematical concepts despite resources that are intended to aid learners in understanding abstract concepts. With an emphasis on state testing, educators are faced with the challenge to improve both math learning and performance on math standardized tests given at the state level. This study aimed to answer whether …
