English language learners (ELLs) make up a huge student population in schools. As this trend continues, there is a need for educators to support these ELL students academically. Given this, one-on-one support for them is crucial for their academic success. The purpose of this capstone research project is to examine how one-on-one support for ELL students through teacher collaboration, compassion, and student engagement. English language learners are the fastest growing population in education and make up nearly one out of every four students in California classrooms. They are in need of successful classroom models in the mainstream elementary classroom to benefit their education. The purpose of this study is to examine the benefits of instructional models for teaching mainstream elementary English language learners, which is done through the review of literature and mainstream teacher surveys.
