This research aimed to examine students’ perceptions of their life skills while attending project-based learning (PBL) schools. The study focused on three questions including: 1) What are students’ perceptions of their development of life skills in project-based learning schools? 2) In what ways, if any, do students perceive an increase in their life skill development over a one-year period of time? 3) What relationship, if any, is there between grade level and students’ perceptions of their life skills? Problems facing black male students in K-12 education are as multiple as they are complex. Regarding this issue, the research literature revealed three major themes that came to the foreground: 1) the lack of school engagement, 2) academic achievement gaps, and 3) racism. In response, the purpose of this qualitative research study was to explore the contextual pedagogical influences of Project-Based Learning (PBL) on school engagement, creativity, and problem solving for fourteen black male students in a suburban Minnesota high school. This thesis presented the results of a mixed-method study of the impact of a Project-based Research course in a public high school in Taipei, Taiwan. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the Project-based Research course from the perspectives of the current students, alumni, and teachers. The high school incorporated traditional education and project-based learning models as their teaching methods. When both students and teachers had to face the dual pressure of adhering to both models, it was unknown if the project-based learning had the same influence as indicated in the research literature on project-based learning. …
