Burnout is a universal experience that impacts many educators. Within the first five years of teaching, 40% of educators will leave the profession (Mielke, 2019). Teachers of high needs students, including special education teachers, are at an even greater risk without adequate support to meet those needs (Ansley et al., 2019). Nationally, educator burnout is becoming concerning as many schools struggle to find experienced teaching staff. The sustainability of education is dependent on understanding and preventing burnout. The purpose of this study was to examine if there is a relationship between independent variables—special education teachers’ emotional/interpersonal stressors, personality type, and worklife variables—and special education teachers’ burnout. Burnout is as complex as it is destructive for the special education teachers, who are likely to cite burnout as a major factor contributing to their pre-retirement departure from education. Burned-out individuals often experience physical fatigue, long-term exhaustion, feelings of hopelessness, negative attitude towards others, and depersonalization. Symptoms of burnout come from work overload, stress, lack of social support, and variations of individual personality traits. This research explored the concept of personality influencing the probability of burnout in the special education field. The …

Technology integration was influenced by similar factors, as well as district-level policies and professional development. Technology adoption and integration efforts …
