Children's Beliefs In Relation To The Essence Of Race, Rachel Wetton

The way in which children categorize race is a highly debatable topic for which a conclusive result has not yet been found. Researchers hold different views as to whether the concept of race is present at birth, or whether it is something that develops. Previous research has shown that children do not treat race in the same way as adults do. Even by fourth grade, children do not consistently believe in the essence of race (Glerum, 2002). This study more closely examines one of the potential factors for the point at which race is essentialized: knowledge of inheritance. Children were …

This exploratory study sought to investigate the relationships among comprehensive school reform, years of implementation, and student achievement in Kentucky's elementary schools. This study sought to answer the following questions: (1) Does a difference exist in reading achievement scores of third grade students after one year, two years, three years, and continuation of America's Choice implementation when compared to scores prior to implementation? (2) Is there evidence that indicate the program is sustained after completion of the three years of implementation? and (3) Is there a trend in reading achievement scores of third grade students after a four-year period of …

The Residual Effect Of Novice Primary Teachers On Reading Achievement Scores, Connie Mayo

This dissertation was an exploratory investigation of the residual effect of novice primary teachers on reading achievement scores. The study employed the theory of pedagogical content knowledge as a basis for understanding teacher expertise and comparing the expert teacher to the novice teacher. The research sought to answer two major questions; (a) Is there a statistically significant difference between the reading achievement, (measured two years later) of students taught by teachers of differing experience levels in primary grades and the state mean for the appropriate grade level? and (b) Is there a statistically significant difference among the two-year-later reading achievement …

The Evaluation Procedures Of Counselor Trainees: A Summary Of Literature, Dr. Jill D. Duba

Counseling & Student Affairs Faculty Publications

This article presents a summary of the literature regarding the procedures used to evaluate counselor education students. Justification for evaluations and evaluation criteria including multicultural considerations are presented. In addition, a summary of evalution procedures being used in counselor education programs are addressed. Finally, areas of further research and implications for training and supervision are noted.

Counselor educations are called to provide some kind of interprofessional training so that students are better equipped at working with other helping professionals on various client cases. This article provides several other reasons why interprofessional training is relevant in counselor education. In addition, several interprofessional training strategies are addressed.
