Perceptions Of Novice Teachers Applying Differentiated Instruction In Heterogeneous Elementary Classrooms, Jessica Ann Meadows

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Differentiated instruction (DI) is an effective approach to maximize students' academic success in diverse elementary classrooms. But a current concern in educational research is an insufficient understanding of how novice elementary teachers perceive and apply DI to support student success, especially as student diversity continues to increase, creating challenges to meeting students' needs. Novice teachers are expected to positively influence student learning through their teaching methods at the same level as experienced teachers. Yet, it is unclear how they use DI to do so. The purpose of this study was to provide a deep understanding of how novice teachers perceive …

Elementary Stakeholder Perceptions Of Data Team Discussions Influence On Instructional Adjustments, Michelle Shay

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Federal law requires schools to conduct formative, summative, and diagnostic assessments to inform instructional strategies. However, the collection of student accountability compliance data has not always resulted in improved student academic achievement. The research problem addressed in this study is that little is understood about how data team discussions influence elementary teachers’ instructional adjustments. The purpose of this basic qualitative study is to gain an in-depth understanding of elementary teacher and leader perceptions of how data team discussions influence teachers’ data-driven decision making (DDDM) instructional adjustments. Elementary Teachers’ Implementation Of Inquiry-Based Instruction, William P. Gray

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A mid-Atlantic state has recently adopted the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that require teachers to integrate inquiry-based instruction into the classroom. The problem at the local level is a new inquiry-based curriculum, based on the NGSS, is being mandated without identifying the instructional strategies teachers are using to implement the new standards. The purpose of this project study was to explore fourth- and fifth-grade science teachers’ inquiry-based instructional strategies, why the strategies were chosen, and teachers’ concerns about the implementation of the strategies. Educator And Parent Collaborative Literacy Support In A Title I School, Larhonda Young

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

In an urban elementary school serving a large percentage of low-socioeconomic status (SES) students in a southern state, the problem was that over 50% of student literacy scores remained below the state standard between 2016 and 2019.
