The purpose of the study was to develop a valid and reliable instrument designed to assess the parenting and child rearing attitudes of adolescents, Responses to the instrument would allow for the identification of "high risk" adolescents, i.e., those adolescents whose attitudes towards parenting and child rearing indicated a high potential for child abuse.

The effects of sex and tutorial instruction were studied as they influenced the seriation ability of pre-school children. The research was conducted at the Utah State University Child Development Laboratories with 24 four year old children enrolled at that time. Twelve of the children, six girls and six boys, were given seriation tasks. The remaining 12 children, six girls and six boys, were not given any seriation training.

It was found that the 12 children who had received individualized instruction seriated significantly better on every task than the 12 children who had received no training. The children who were trained …

A child development laboratory in a university finds its first justification in its ability to contribute to the education of college students. After this justification has been established, the laboratory has a responsibility for serving the children enrolled in it.

The Child Development Laboratory at Utah State University serves college students in several ways. Students are able to observe and participate in the nursery school laboratory through experiences in various courses. The culmination of their course work comes when, as juniors or seniors, they do student teaching in the nursery school.
