Our California Bird Friends, Allen Keim Jan 1932

Our California Bird Friends, Allen Keim

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Our California Bird Friends is an attempt to interest children in birds, by presenting a group of factual stories describing the habits and characteristics, the courage and cleverness of various birds. It is hoped that it will fill a definite need in nature study. The stories are limited to proven facts, presented in a manner which the elementary school child of the fourth, firth, and sixth grades may readily read and understand.

The element of reality in the thesis is greatly enhanced by the nature of the illustrations, which are photographs and sketches or real birds in true-to-fact situations.

The Assimilation Of The Japanese In And Around Stockton, Horace F. Chansler

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The problem of' the Japanese in California has been prominent since the opening of the twentieth century. Much has been written in an attempt to help solve the problem. Yet the general trends of the writings prior to the Johnson Immigration Law of 1924 were to deal with the Japanese just coming into California rather than with those who were born here or had established permanent residence. Yet after the Immigration Law went into effect the problem of preventing undesirable Japanese from entering California became extinct. The problem no longer centers around exclusion but rather around "inclusion". In short the …

All the findings and knowledge of electricity and magnetism are not new; even the Greeks as far back as 600 B. C. knew something about these forces. As time went on the facts increased.

Art Appreciation As Applied To Art In Everyday Life Suitable For Ninth Year Pupils, Lottiellen Johnson

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The ability to see the beauty that is all around us in the world is a matter of training. We call this ability appreciation. It is an attitude of mind that brings much joy to the possessor.

Appreciation must be definitely taught if the children are to no- quire such an attitude of mind, which is not an accidental by-product of any and all art instruction, as many art teachers in the past have considered it, but is the outcome of a definite teaching method. It is possible to confine one's teaching to the presentation of facts, making the procedure …

Each year shows an Increased enrollment in the universities and colleges of California. The compulsory education law has served to keep more students in high school a longer time and upon graduation many of these pupils desire to attend an institution of higher learning. This fact, together with the influx of people into California from all parts of the United States and abroad to make their homes, has added materially to the numbers of prospective college students.

It has been the policy of the colleges and universities in the State of California to admit graduates from accredited high schools without …

A History Of The Secularization Of The Missions Of California, Mervyn V. Miller Jan 1932

A History Of The Secularization Of The Missions Of California, Mervyn V. Miller

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The characteristic attitude of the major portion of native Californians toward the California Missions is one of innocent, ignorant acceptance combined with but little interest or concern. By this I mean that the Missions are accepted as forming part of the Historical beauty of the State of California, but the pa- sons for this belief are not known--nor the reasons for the fact that these old adobe churches moulded an older generation into a foundation stone upon which rests the present glory of a State unsurpassed in scenic or historic grandeur they exist, hence they were..
