Establishing Criteria For Developing A Program Of Science Instruction In Elementary Schools Of The Stockton Unified School District, Jefferson Bryan West

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

great deal of confusion exists among elementary

school teachers, supervisors, and administrators regarding the kinds of experiences children should have in an elementary school science program. The confusion has been intensified by two opposing philosophies. One group would establish a rigid sequence of science experiences for each grade level; another group would relegate science to an inferior position in relation to other elementary school subjects. The net result has been that science instruction is often dependent upon the amount of effort that individual teachers are willing to exert. science is far too vital in modern living to be left to …

How The Spanish Culture Can Contribute More Significantly To The Social Studies Program Of California Elementary Schools, Samuel Encínas Renteria Jan 1954

How The Spanish Culture Can Contribute More Significantly To The Social Studies Program Of California Elementary Schools, Samuel Encínas Renteria

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In the past, evidence indicates that the teaching of social studies in many places in California has been a perfunctory, superficial type of instruction, For example, early attempts to expose the child to the historical background of California were through a history or geography book. In most cases, the usual procedure was to tell the child to read so many pages and then answer the questions at the end of the chapter. The main objective was to cover the text by the end of the school term and pass an examination over facts with little or no concern for the …

Language Training For Missionaries, Laurence Mcpherson Farr

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Every foreign missionary is confronted with one basic task. Without its successful accomplishment his work as a missionary will fail. It is the task of learning the language of the people among whom he is working. However laudable his motives may be, however great his consecration, and however capable he may be in many tasks, if he fails to gain the ability to understand readily speech addressed to him or to communicate his own thoughts intelligibly and accurately to them, he is working behind a closed door — a door which he failed to unlock,

It is the purpose of …

Modern Youth And Literature (With Emphasis Upon Creative Education), Ralph Westerman Jan 1928

Modern Youth And Literature (With Emphasis Upon Creative Education), Ralph Westerman

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In writing a thesis dealing with such an amazingly wide subject as modern youth one is staggered by the quantities of material that one must read. It is true that most of the research work concerning the young American is propaganda of one kind of another: someone must prove that youth is degenerate; or someone must prove that youth is god-like. Between these two extremes much has been written in an attempt to prove that youth is simply youth--little or no different from the youth of any other age. It is all very illuminating and it is all a bit …
