Testing The Modality Effect In An Online Training Of Virtual Workers: An Experiment Inspired By Social Distancing, Janice Lambert Chretien
Testing The Modality Effect In An Online Training Of Virtual Workers: An Experiment Inspired By Social Distancing, Janice Lambert Chretien
Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic, and within 10 days, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported that all 50 U.S. states had confirmed cases of the virus.
Facing a national mandate of social distancing, most U.S. workers needed training on how to use tools and technologies required to do their jobs virtually. As a result, HRD professionals needed to quickly transition their practice onto virtual platforms with the most effective strategies for delivering learning content. Research findings have evidenced the presence of the modality effect, which states that learning …

The Impact Of Work Alienation On The Relationship Between Person-Organization Fit And Organizational Citizenship Behavior In Higher Education, Andrew R. Krouse
The Impact Of Work Alienation On The Relationship Between Person-Organization Fit And Organizational Citizenship Behavior In Higher Education, Andrew R. Krouse
Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
Higher education institutions are an established system for individual development and knowledge transfer. Recently, this system has come under pressure to implement additional oversight practices previously associated with business. These business practices, including centralization, are recognized as sources that include elements of work alienation (WA). This study investigated the impact of WA on the relationship between person-organization fit (POF) and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and sought to determine if a statistically significant relationship existed between these constructs. Qualtrics®, an online survey tool, was used to collect the data for this study, and IBM® SPSS® Amos 25.0 was used to perform …
School-Based Mindfulness Program And Anxiety Prevention In Eighth Graders: A Randomized Pilot Study, Sarah Sass, Staci Zolkoski
School-Based Mindfulness Program And Anxiety Prevention In Eighth Graders: A Randomized Pilot Study, Sarah Sass, Staci Zolkoski
Diversity, Social Justice, and the Educational Leader
Adolescence is a period marked by challenges, and an adolescent’s sensitivity to stress and anxiety can interfere with resilient coping. Educational leaders should consider mindfulness programs because they appear promising in preventing mental health issues in adolescents and are acceptable to youth from diverse backgrounds. The present randomized school-based pilot study addressed whether mindfulness was associated with preventing stress, anxiety, or depression, and whether resilience would increase in healthy eighth graders randomized to 8-sessions of a mindfulness program or a wait-list control group. Self-report measures of psychological functioning (e.g., stress, anxiety, depression, resilience) were completed before and after a mindfulness …
Eradicating Anti-Black Racism In U.S. Schools: A Call-To-Action For School Leaders, Altheria L. Caldera
Eradicating Anti-Black Racism In U.S. Schools: A Call-To-Action For School Leaders, Altheria L. Caldera
Diversity, Social Justice, and the Educational Leader
This manuscript is a theoretical treatise that examines anti-Blackness in the nation’s schools and contributes to the ongoing discussion about how schools can better serve Black students. It is a three-pronged call-to-action for social justice-oriented school leaders. I urge school leaders to 1) examine anti-Black racism as a distinct form of racial discrimination, 2) imagine ways educators can fully humanize Black children in U.S. schools through a disposition characterized by Black cultural reverence, and 3) connect with existing efforts to counter anti-Black racism in schools. To accomplish these goals, I investigated the historical socio-political context that has shaped the educational …
Preventing Stress Among Undergraduate Learners: The Importance Of Emotional Intelligence, Resilience, And Emotion Regulation, Christopher L. Thomas, Staci Zolkoski
Preventing Stress Among Undergraduate Learners: The Importance Of Emotional Intelligence, Resilience, And Emotion Regulation, Christopher L. Thomas, Staci Zolkoski
Education Faculty Publications and Presentations
In the current investigation, we examined the association among emotional intelligence, emotional regulation tendencies, resilience, and perceived stress within a sample of undergraduate students. Participants (N = 277, 71% Female, 55% White) completed the Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale, Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, Brief Resilience Scale, and Perceived Stress Scale. Using path analysis techniques, we demonstrated that resilience was a negative predictor of perceived stress. Additionally, our results indicated that the use of cognitive reappraisal exerted an indirect influence on perceived stress through resilience. Finally, the current investigation provided evidence that emotional intelligence exerts an indirect influence on stress through both …

Teachers' Instructional Decisions And Student Agency In New Purposefully Designed Learning Spaces, Yanira Oliveras Ortiz, Dalane Bouillion, Lizzy Asbury
Education Faculty Publications and Presentations
Learning that promotes student agency and active, cognitive student engagement has a positive impact on students’ self-efficacy, learning, and achievement. When designing lessons that foster student agency and active engagement, educators must consider multiple variables, including the space where learning will take place. In order to understand how students perceive the impact of spaces in learning and how designed areas are being used by teachers, a qualitative study was conducted at a newly designed energy industry-focused high school. This manuscript presents the students' perspectives related to student agency, the value of learning, students' role in their learning, and how cognitively …

Dnp Final Report: The Flipped Classroom: An Evidence-Based, Course Redesign To Increase Retention Rates In A Vocational Nursing Program, Jennifer P. Hauger
DNP Final Reports
Over the past three decades, Vocational Nursing has been taught using a conventional didactic method that is content heavy and lecture focused. Despite having a group of highly qualified professors and an excellent student pass rates on the National board examinations, student retention in a Vocational Nursing Program in central Texas remains below the National benchmark. With a unique student demographic that is identified as non-traditional (over 21, full-time working adults, English Second Language and single parents), we embarked upon the redesign of a Medical-Surgical Nursing course using the flipped pedagogical framework to increase retention rates. Therefore, in 2019 we …
Examining The Mediating Effect Of Job Crafting On The Relationship Between Managerial Coaching And Job Engagement In The Skilled Trades, Jennifer H. Duplessis
Examining The Mediating Effect Of Job Crafting On The Relationship Between Managerial Coaching And Job Engagement In The Skilled Trades, Jennifer H. Duplessis
Human Resource Development Theses and Dissertations
Employee engagement continues to gain considerable attention owing to its positive correlation with numerous desired work-related outcomes (Saks, 2019; Shuck et al., 2017). Engagement in one’s job has become of particular interest in industry sectors experiencing shortages, such as the skilled trades (Bilginsoy, 2003). The skilled trades have reportedly been the most difficult segment of the employee market to staff globally year over year (Schwartz, 2015; Wright, 2013).
As organizations wish to improve engagement in one’s job, they have looked to developmental antecedents of engagement (Ellinger, Musgrove, & Ellinger, 2012). Managerial coaching has been supported as having a significant direct …

Screen Time Reduction, Karmen L. Serda Mrs.
MSN Capstone Projects
Children and adolescents are spending an alarming amount of time engaging in screen time (ST) activities on mobile devices, computers, televisions (TV), and video games; activities include, but are not limited to, watching shows or movies, playing video games, searching the internet, texting, or using social media. This excessive ST is contributing to a vast array of serious childhood complications and health concerns, of which are rarely discussed, acknowledged, or remedied.
The proposed implementation of a structured 3-day elementary school based screen time reduction program (STRP) that would target not only the children and adolescents, but their parents and/or caregivers …

Dnp Final Report: Changing Admission Criteria In A Vocational Nursing Program To Decrease Attrition, Gabrielle O. Davis
DNP Final Reports
By the year 2030 Texas will have a shortage of 33,500 Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN). The LVN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate and focused nursing care to assigned patients with predictable health care needs. Most LVNS work in settings caring for our ever increasing and aged population. To combat the coming shortage VN programs need to graduate safe, competent, and compassionate nurses, but programs across the state are experiencing high student attrition rates. Admission criteria is a common method to determine student success in nursing programs. This evidence-based practice improvement project synthesized evidence and integrated best practices along with …
The Relationship Between Hand Washing And Hospital-Acquired Infections, Qian Gao
The Relationship Between Hand Washing And Hospital-Acquired Infections, Qian Gao
MSN Capstone Projects
Hand hygiene is a hot topic all the time since it is a simple yet effective way to prevent infection. For the staff who work in the hospital, they need to perform hand hygiene thousands of times. Hospital-acquired infections are caused by viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens. The most common types of infections are bloodstream infections, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and surgical site infections. There are many articles that emphasize the benefits of hand hygiene and the decreasing rates of hospital-acquired infections. However, few of these articles focus on the education aspect of hand washing. The author reviews the articles …

Venous Thromboembolism Prevention, Heidi K. Gibson
MSN Capstone Projects
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention is important to patients, families, and healthcare institutions. Education is key in prevention VTE. This educational capstone project poses the question as to what type of educational material is most beneficial in decreasing VTE and also increasing VTE protocol compliance rates among nurses. The paper addresses the following PICOT question: In staff nurses (P) how does venous thromboembolism prevention education (I) compared to no venous thromboembolism prevention education (C) affect compliance with the established thromboembolism protocol (O) during the three months following completion of the required education for the intervention group (T)?

Providing comfort and support to the dying patient is a significant part of the dying process. When soothing a patient, who is dying, the goal is to prevent or relieve suffering as much as possible. Respecting the patient's health and quality of life goals and decisions is essential. Healthcare profession students can experience multiple levels of anxiety, stress, and a negative attitude while taking care of the dying patient. The implementation of a successful intervention is at the cornerstone of helping reduce stress, anxiety, and attitude change in healthcare profession students. The application can also have a positive impact on …

Stem Achievement Among Diverse Students And Elementary Pre-Service Teacher Preparation: Considerations And Recommendations, Calli Lewis Chiu
Diversity, Social Justice, and the Educational Leader
Shifts in school demographics toward greater ethnic and linguistic diversity necessitate preparing a workforce of teachers who are skilled in inclusive teaching practices for all students. While improvements have been made over the past two decades, there is still a significant need to support pre-service elementary teachers in becoming capable instructors of STEM content in order to promote STEM achievement among diverse PK – 12 students. It is the obligation of all educational leaders to advocate for practices that work to dismantle systemic forms of inequality. This manuscript examines the increasingly significant role of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) …

This manuscript highlights benefits of service-learning (SL) as a promising pedagogical approach to improving teaching and learning in college classrooms. Drawing on the collective experiences of integrating SL projects in university courses, the authors share a framework aimed at assisting faculty in higher education in designing, implementing, and evaluating SL projects across diverse higher education courses. A case example illustrating how SL projects can be infused in a graduate course is offered, and recommendations are provided for faculty who wish to integrate SL projects with the goal of improving teaching and learning in their college courses.
