Growth communities have developed throughout the United States in answer to a need to relate to others in close, meaningful ways and to regain a sense of personal identity, threatened by urban life styles. This study reports the events and situations leading to the formation, development and decline of Rain on Tuesday, a growth community in Laguna Beach, California. The community was started as a leisure activity by a group of middle-aged, upper middle class people who had previously been involved in a social action project. Since the late 16th century, the Spanish language has been maintained in rural, northern New Mexico communities, largely through a pattern of geographic isolation. Within the past 50 years, however, communities in northern New Mexico have begun to undergo greater sociocultural change and more contact with English.

Arroyo Seco is one Spanish-speaking community in northern New Mexico that has recently experienced increased intercultural contact. In this study each individual responding to the Institutional Functioning Inventory had the opportunity to express his perceptions of what his own university was like with respect to ten scales. The study tested the following major null hypotheses:

The purpose of the present investigation was to identify the kinds of facilities and rehabilitative opportunities available for children. Further purposes were to determine, more precisely, what New Mexico facilities offer parents and their children displaying emotional problems. Staffing, facilities, and programming have been continual problems in institutional care of the mentally retarded. Gesell and I lg (1946) examined the institution in respect to developing the “self” of each resident. This study concluded that the institutional setting limited the resident's development because impromptu situations which build love, affection, and the feeling of belonging in the normal child were not present nor provided for in the institution. The purpose of this study was to try to determine whether a structured creativity program could improve creative thinking abilities in elementary emotionally disturbed children. The study examined creativity as a process and contended that emotionally disturbed children could profit from learning to think creatively by increasing their repertoire of appropriate responses. The subjects were taken from two special adaptation classes for the emotionally disturbed. The classes were located in two elementary schools in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Internal-External locus of control construct (Rotter, 1966) has been investigated in a variety of areas. One area that has not received the attention it should is that of psychotherapeutic applications. Until now there has been no research testing the use of therapy with indi­viduals who fall at the extremes of the I-E continuum. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of short-­term group therapy on changing inmates' expectations of locus of control in a prison population.

The objectives of this study were: (1) to develop a procedure for categorizing statewide higher education funding formulas; (2) to use that procedure to categorize the statewide funding formulas utilized by fifteen selected states; (3) to simulate the implementation of at least one statewide funding formula from each category using 1972-73 New Mexico data; and (4) to develop several alternative model funding formulas for financing higher education in New Mexico.
