The purpose of this study was to examine teacher loyalty to the principal. The study was conducted in the Catholic elementary schools of the Archdiocese of Omaha, a 23-county area of northeast and central Nebraska that is under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of th Archbishop.

Since elementary students have an opportunity to view their teachers in a variety of situations and circumstances throughout the school year, the students have the potential to provide teachers with valuable feedback. This source of information on teacher performance has received very little attention at the elementary school level. The major focus of the study was to examine student feedback on teacher effectiveness and those factors which might influence student feedback.

What students who have mental retardation do upon graduation has become a major concern of the 80?s. Over fifteen years ago parents of moderately retarded adults expressed concerns about the quality of life their children experienced after graduation (Stanfield, 1973). Data from 120 parent interviews showed that 40% of their children worked in a sheltered work setting, 2% worked for a family business, 11% attended an activity center and a large portion of them, 44% were not employed or were in a habitation program. The purpose of this study was to identify a selected number of functions, goals, and purposes for schools educating kindergarten children in the Omaha Public Schools. More specially , the objectives of this study were to: (1) determine what kindergarten teachers, first grade teachers, supervisors, and elementary principals considered to be the major purpose for schools educating kindergarteners, and (2) examine the extent of congruence between the above four groups concerning the purpose for schools educating kindergarten children.

Since the enactment of public law 94-142 in 1975, public schools have been searching for ways to extend the opportunities for their handicapped students to receive more of their education with nonhandicapped peers. While looking for ways to do this they have also been concerned with the outcomes such placement would have on the students in such areas as social adjustment and academic achievement. The Shoreham-Wading River Middle School has had a program in place since 1973 which responds to this need. I am particularly enthusiastic about joining you to discuss values education. It is one of the three most important challenges favoring American public education. The other two, parenthetically, are: (1) Successfully meeting the needs of children and youth at risk of school failure; and (2) The availability of sufficient quantities of quality teachers. Frankly, the three are very much intertwined, but this afternoon I will focus on values education.
