Key Factors Surrounding The Survival And Thrival Of Rural Schools In Nebraska Through The Eyes Of Superintendents: A Mixed Methods Study, Sadie Coffey
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Rural school success is crucial for the Nebraska education system. Without rural schools, many students and families would be without access to high quality educational opportunities. Despite the importance of rural education, the number of rural schools in Nebraska continues to decline, and “one thing is clear from academic research on rural schools: closings and consolidations can drastically change the flavor of civic life in a rural community” (McCullum & Merrefield, 2019, p. 1). Identity loss and identity crisis theories may explain why these rural schools in Nebraska continue to survive and thrive. Without the rural school, a community and …
First-Generation College Student Experience In The Financial Aid Process, Kristy Saunders
First-Generation College Student Experience In The Financial Aid Process, Kristy Saunders
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
How do first-generation college students experience the financial aid process? In what ways does a first-generation status affect the financial aid process for college students? Prior literature shows that first-generation college students are more likely to navigate the financial aid process without the help of parents and are less likely to complete the financial aid process in its entirety. However, there is a gap in prior literature examining the first-generation college student experience within the financial aid process overall. The current study utilizes a hermeneutical phenomenological approach to examine first-generation college student experiences in the financial aid process at a …
Characteristics Of An Appropriate Instructor-Student Relationship In Allied Health, Julie K. Morbach
Characteristics Of An Appropriate Instructor-Student Relationship In Allied Health, Julie K. Morbach
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
In most allied health educational programs, the instructors are individuals who are experts in their field, but do not have a certificate in teaching. Furthermore, these individuals may feel a sense of loneliness when transitioning from working in a department with co-workers to being the sole instructor of a discipline-specific program. Because of this sense of isolation and the amount of time spent with the same students, instructors may begin to perceive students more as friends and confidants. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the perceptions of educators regarding the instructor-student relationship in allied health programs in …

The Legislative Purposes And Intent Of The Common Levy In Nebraska’S Learning Community, Matthew L. Blomstedt
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The purpose of this historical study was to establish the purposes and intent of the common levy in Nebraska’s learning community. The development of this unique regional educational structure consisting of eleven school districts in the Omaha, Nebraska metropolitan area is central to the study. The research detailed the context of the decisions made by the Nebraska Legislature to establish and implement the learning community law from 2005 and 2012. Specifically, the study focused on the establishment of a regional tax base, the common levy, as a response to boundary and finance instability that persisted in the Omaha area. The …

Exploring Technology Usage By School Counselors: A Mixed Methods Study, Nathan Grosshandler
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
School counseling is progressing from the tradition of responsive services to a proactive system linked to school mission (Dahir, 2009, p 4.). This paradigm shift within the profession has drastically increased the responsibility required of school counselors.
This study explored data drawn from a population of school counselors at Recognized American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model Programs (RAMP). A multi-phase, sequential explanatory mixed methods design was used for this study. The study focused on nine specific technologies: website, e-mail, Internet, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, student database system, social networking platforms, and EZ Analyze. Mean scores, frequency distribution tables, …
A Study Of The Perceptions Of Career American Missionaries In The Countries Of Kenya And Tanzania Relating To Their Overseas Field-Based Orientation Experiences, John S. Basham
Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The purpose of this study was to examine the lived field orientation experiences of 12 missionaries living in Kenya and Tanzania relative to their perceptions of personal effectiveness. This study was driven by how a segment of missionaries described their field orientation in relation to perceived effectiveness on the field. Four major themes relative to field orientation emerged. Recommendations relating to missionary field orientation programs were offered.
Every year thousands of new missionaries relocate overseas with the intent of ministering in a new culture. All experience cultural shock and problems. Orientation experiences and personal definitions of effectiveness could impact why …
