The transition out of high school and into young adulthood is often fraught with challenge and uncertainty, especially for youth of color and first-generation students. This two-part research study first reports on interviews with young adults who describe the obstacles they faced in making this critical life transition. The second part of our study describes the findings from interviews with young adults who participated in Out-of-School (OST) programs during their transition to young adulthood. Requirements Engineering (RE) has established itself as a core software engineering discipline. It is well acknowledged that good RE leads to higher quality software and considerably reduces the risk of failure or exceeding budgets of software development projects. Therefore, it is of vital importance to train future software engineers in RE and educate future requirements engineers to adequately manage requirements in various projects.
