Building Leadership Capacity & Succession Planning In The Archdiocese Of Seattle Catholic Schools, Pamela J. Schwartz Apr 2024

Building Leadership Capacity & Succession Planning In The Archdiocese Of Seattle Catholic Schools, Pamela J. Schwartz

Education Dissertations

Research shows that Catholic schools are important factors that contribute to the proliferation of the faith (Gray, 2014). Additionally, studies reveal that effective principals have a positive impact on student achievement and school improvement (Leithwood et al., 2004; Waters et al., 2003). Because effective leaders are vital to the success of Catholic schools, it is logical to deduce the importance of investing in robust leadership development and succession programs to ensure the longevity of both Catholic schools and the Church. Rooted in the servant and contemplative leadership theories, this study examined important practices within leadership development and succession planning through …

Effects Of Fundamentals Of Culture On Teacher-Student Relationship In Middle School: A Quantitative Correlation Study, Laura L. Chang Apr 2024

Effects Of Fundamentals Of Culture On Teacher-Student Relationship In Middle School: A Quantitative Correlation Study, Laura L. Chang

Education Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to explore whether teacher-student relationships could be strengthened if we knew what impacted the cultural background of middle school teachers. Using a quantitative correlation research design and a multiple linear regression analysis, I examined the relationship between one dependent variable, Teacher-Student Relationship (TSR) and four predictor variables, Individualism versus Collectivism (IvC), Monochronic versus Polychronic values (MvP), Universalism versus Particularism (UvP), and Activism versus Fatalism (AvF). This research relied on prior studies centered around teacher-student relationship, the theory of cultural humility (Foronda, 2020), and values orientation theory (Kluckhohn & Strodtbeck, 1961). The analysis explored teacher-student …

Culturally Responsive Teaching And Learning Achievement, Jose Rivera Jan 2024

Culturally Responsive Teaching And Learning Achievement, Jose Rivera

Education Dissertations

Over the last decades the United States demographics reflect an increase in student diversity and multilanguage learners have changed the landscape of the education system. Educators are having a difficult time connecting, reaching, and teaching many of these diverse and multilingual learners. As a result, culturally and linguistically diverse students are not successful in school and are pushed out of secondary schools at an alarming rate. The United States educational system faces a glaring discrepancy of teacher and student demographics. In America 84% of teachers are White not Hispanic, only 6% of teachers are Latino/Hispanic, 8% are Black and less …

Imagine If All Schools Had This! Fostering Inclusive Family Engagement Through Human-Centered Design Thinking, Tamara R. York Jan 2024

Imagine If All Schools Had This! Fostering Inclusive Family Engagement Through Human-Centered Design Thinking, Tamara R. York

Education Dissertations

This ethnographic study explores the crucial role of family engagement in educational systems and the impact a human-centered design team has on students' success at an elementary school. The research addresses the historical impact of racism and colonization on student outcomes alongside the ongoing challenge of narrowing the opportunity gap. Current interventions and support services, though significant, often adopt a remedial stance and are grounded in deficit thinking rather than embracing an asset-based approach. The research proposes a shift from traditional school-initiated family engagement to a human-centered design (HCD) approach to address these challenges. The purpose of the study is …

Influences Of Professors' Personality Traits, Teaching Styles, And Generational Affiliation On Technology Acceptance: A Mixed-Methods Exploration Of Blended Learning Readiness, Joey K. Freeman Jan 2024

Influences Of Professors' Personality Traits, Teaching Styles, And Generational Affiliation On Technology Acceptance: A Mixed-Methods Exploration Of Blended Learning Readiness, Joey K. Freeman

Education Dissertations

The abrupt transition to emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic offered minimal time to prepare, resulting in faculty reliance on prior pedagogical practices in the shift to an online instructional environment. Although the pandemic altered the learning environment in the short-term, it also offered a glimpse of how higher education institutions (HEIs) could transform their learning environments in the long-term. Though a body of literature exists on factors that influence technology acceptance, a limited number of studies have explored personality traits, teaching styles, and generational affiliation. An adapted Technology Acceptance Model considered these variables as antecedents to perceptions, attitudes, …
